It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. The official anniversary was yesterday. I left Germany on February 21, 1992 after living there for a year & a half. I can honestly say I have missed it every day ever since. I miss Europe. If you’ve been there, you probably know what I mean. If you live there now, I’m jealous. If you’re heading there, I wish I could be too. Maybe someday. All week long I’ve been thinking about it. I can’t believe that much time has passed. I can’t believe Jason will be 10 in two months. (I flew back exactly 2 months, to the day, before he was born)
I have a long list of places that I would want to visit if I returned tomorrow. I would like to go to
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, only about 15 minutes from where I lived in Illesheim. Illesheim is such a small town, I couldn’t find a website for it, but Bad Windsheim was only 3km away. It’s part of the Romantisches Franken region. Matter of fact, you can rent an apartment in Bad Windsheim for a vacation home. Back over in Rothenburg you can visit the Torture Museum and Kathe Wohlfahrt’s Christmas store.
I could go on for hours, if not days, about Germany and all of Europe. I will go back someday. I don’t know when or how, but it would be a dream come true. Actually, it’s more then just a dream – it’s a goal. Now I just need to make it happen.

Hey my son is going to be 10 on May 28th too cool 🙂 and one of my closest friends at church is from Germany she’s been here for 10 years I can’t remember where she is from though. I know what you mean about missing a place though. I miss certain places a lot. 🙂
I loved Rothenburg and I have oh so fond memories of Kathe Wohlfahrt’s. It was at this store that my mom bought a music box that got me stopped at the security gate in Frankfurt. It was also in front of this store that my mom got a parking ticket and tourists videotaped her arguing with the police man!
I love Europe. I think that’s what I’m trying to say.
*smoooooooch*
Were you born in Germany?? Just curious since I don’t know a whole lot about you but I’m sure living in Texas is quite a culture shock! 🙂
This is perfect timing by the way. I was just trying to figure out how much time I really wanted to spend in Germany and where I’d want to do it if I did.
You’ll need to tell more at SXSW…
