Hurricane Claudette Goes Coastal…

Hurricane Claudette sweeps ashore, but worst yet to come.

I wish I had a video camera this morning so I could record just how fast the clouds are moving. It’s just raining here, but we are under tornado watch advisory and flash flood warnings. It’s very wet and very gray outside – and windy!

If you want to keep an eye on things, there is a really cool Galveston Webcam. It’s not pretty out there right now. Claudette has arrived.

Update: No video camera, but I did snap a photo with the phone camera during my drive to work.

Being a Mom is Painful, Part I…

Jason returned from his almost 3 week road trip with my parents yesterday and made it home in time for dinner last night. Do all 11 year old boys have problems telling you what they did and what they saw on their trip? I thought I was going to have to open his mouth and pry out the details of what he had seen! He was happy to show me the rocks he got when he visited the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, and he offered up details on the Playstations he visited across the land.

As I was going to bed, I thought I heard him call for me from his bedroom. When I went in to his room, he was sitting up part way, but he didn’t really look awake. I went in and asked what was wrong, and he mumbled an answer (sort of) but wouldn’t lay down. I tried rubbing his arm and his shoulder as I guided him towards his pillow again. He looked serene and like he was going to go back to sleep, and so I leaned down to give him a kiss on the cheek.

And that’s when it happened.

BAM! He sat bolt upright, right in to my nose! I somehow got him to lay back down, and then I just stood there. I’ve had the wind knocked out of me, but never on my face! Ouch! I was stunned. I couldn’t breath at first, and for a moment I thought I was going to faint. Then I composed myself and quietly left his room and went back to bed. I swear, for awhile I couldn’t feel my nose. It was all tingly and weird. Ouch. I’m still surprised that I didn’t have black and blue eyes this morning, but today it just hurt a little. But it still hurts some.

Time to diagnose myself with some good, old-fashioned WebMD. With a slogan like “Trustworthy, Credible, and Timely Health Information,” how can you not believe everything they say? Have you ever noticed that once you get done at WebMD, you’ve convinced yourself that you have every disease you come across? Or is that just me?

How would I know if I have a broken nose? Do they splint a broken nose? Will I have to wear two popsicle sticks and some white hospital tape on my nose while it mends? Really, if you think about it – how hysterical would that look?!

Cleaning and Grooving…

I’m listening to Rick Astley while I do some Sunday housework. Feel free to laugh, I love this CD. It makes me want to move and groove while I clean. Plus I love singing along to all of the songs.

What gets you moving and grooving when you need it? I would gladly take some recommendations!

Bop Bop Chisanbop…

I left out the amusing part of my lunch with Jen yesterday. Ok, wait – there were a lot of amusing parts – but some things are best left at the table between friends! Anyways, when we got the check, Jen was looking at it and figuring out how much her part of the bill was. She put her fingers on the table in the chisanbop pose to count! I almost screamed – I thought I was the only person that knew chisanbop! My Mom taught it when she worked with the gifted & talented program in Kankakee. She was even certified in it.

Does anyone else out there know chisanbop?

Unplanned Days…

Jen sent me an e-mail yesterday to see if I was busy today, and I didn’t have any plans so it was the perfect time to get together at the Fridays where we first met in person. It was a great chance to catch up on life, work – or lack thereof, blog philosophy and so much more. Good times and 3 hours of talking. Could you ask for more? We even took the required self portrait with my cell phone camera. I’ll have to add it to PictureYourself soon!

After I left, I called Mike and then headed over to Ikea. I had to warn him where I was going in case I was never seen again. I have never been to an Ikea in the US – I have only been to them in Germany. I absolutely love Ikea! I’m still amazed that I was only there for an hour and a half. I could have stayed and explored so much longer – but I figured it was wise to get out while I could!

I started to head for home, but instead called Mike again and suggested going to Taste of Texas for dinner. He agreed that it sounded like a good idea, and I went to get in line. It must have been the night for former employees of my job to be there – my old manager, Brian, was leaving just before we got a table, and one of the programmers I worked with, Cody, was there too. After only an hour wait – they told us 60 – 90 minutes – we got a table. Kids these days have no sense of humor. The hostess asks as she takes you to the table, “Are you here to celebrate anything tonight?” I responded with, “Yes, the cows that gave up their lives for our steaks!” I don’t think she got it… At least the waitress thought it was funny! Then again, her name was also Christine, so maybe it’s just a Christine thing.
