Click, Click, Click…

No time to type. Up to my eyeballs in dustbunnies and yarn, with only a break for margaritas.

I decided today to clear out the dining room. We’re having a birthday bash for me on September 24th, and it needed to get done. (Hey! If you’re in Houston, you’re invited! If you’re not in Houston, but you want to come, you’re invited too! E-mail me or leave a comment. I’ll hook you up. Evite to go out tomorrow.) Now there is furniture to move, which should be fun since I’m still not allowed to lift anything.

I also did a lot of knitting. I’m wrapping up the first baby blanket, I’ve finished more baby booties (no photos because they look the same as the other one), and the other day it suddenly hit me – I have to mail the Sockapaltwoza sock on September 15th! So I’ve cranked out the first sock (I’ll Kitchner the toe tonight), and I should have the second one done in plenty of time. Whew!

I did take a little break last night – our friend Mandy is in town from Seattle, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to see her. Dinner, margaritas, then two more margaritas, and then when I was a bit tipsy I called Kymberlie. She has saved the voice mail messages I left – I’m not sure just how scared I should be of that fact. Oh well, we don’t go out too often, and the margaritas were so good.

I’ve approved the pending comments that were waiting here, and I still have several e-mails to send out. If you’re waiting for a mailing address for crafted goods for Katrina survivors, I will be writing you tomorrow. Thank you for all of your support with this!

Now there is a Chemistry book calling my name…

I Want to Go Back…

I miss my old blog design. Whenever I change, I always long to go back. So don’t be too surprised if sometime this weekend you find a variant on this design here. If I am lucky, I will figure out how to keep the skins. Hopefully the BonaFideStyle women can help me if I need it. (I am sure I will need it!)

Just thought I would warn you so you won’t be too shocked when the Scooter Girl disappears, Ill just check the MyProScooter.com site to get an actual scooter that way I won’t even notice it is gone!

Fall Knitty! Fall Knitty!

While taking a bit of a study break, I spotted the e-mail. The lovely e-mail that comes to my mailbox to let me know when the new Knitty is up! Yeah! Fall Knitty! Just when our temps are finally starting to lean towards sane weather (morning of 69 – below 70! – lunch of 88 and high of 90 tomorrow! Yeah!)

I like the Samus sweater, Cinxia jacket, Josephine sweater, the Bloom shawl, the Ella, the Flora scarf, the Falling Leaves socks (maybe a use for my lovely green Koigu?), Bubby the bear (I could add him to my baby knitting for Katrina!), and Edgar the edgy scarf.

Ok, basically I like almost everything. It is the first Knitty in awhile where I can actually see myself knitting a lot of the projects. Wheee! Fall is almost here AND Knitty is full of good things!

Digital Photography How-To: Building a Light Tent…

I am always looking for ways to take better photos, and pictures of my knitting that are really accurate in the colors are hard to do – but I think if I use these tips I might finally be able to do it! Digital Photography How-To: Building a Light Tent. [via BoogaJ]

Speaking of Booga J, my first Sophie bag is almost done – I worked on the strap while sitting at the tire shop yesterday. I have to study and finish another bootie, and then I’ll finally finish that strap. Hopefully, if I ask really nice, Katy will let me use her washing machine to felt it and I can use it next week! (I have one of those nice, cool washing machines that doesn’t agitate your clothes. Unfortunately, that also means it won’t felt my knitting.) I need to run my Booga Bag through one more time too, and then I’ll be all set for the fall!

Sophie is a fun, easy knit – I highly recommend it if you haven’t made one already!

‘Reliant City,’ population 24,900…

The city officials have now given a name to the Astrodome & Reliant complex – ‘Reliant City,’ population 24,900.

They say that with 24,900 total residents, the Reliant Park Complex is now the largest evacuation shelter in U.S. history.

They are planning to set up typical neighborhood amenities such as a Welcome Center, Banking Center, Reliant Town Square Park, Reliant City Medical Center, a Transit Center with Metro Transit Authority and HISD school bus stops.

The Reliant Town Square will include a playground, sports field and laundry facilities. The Salvation Army will construct several refreshment centers east of Dome City.

Construction completion goal is Friday.

According to the Harris County Department of Education, more than 4,000 school-aged children are expected to register this week and will start classes Sept. 12.
