Birthday Wishes Knittastic!

Happy Birthday, Mike!

Today is Mike’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Mike!

I could go on and on, blabbering about how wonderful he is – because trust me, he is truly amazing. Best husband ever. Jason & I could never ask for more. However, I’m not going to go on and on about it right now because I have a Chemistry test in just over an hour!

Mike was the guest DJ for episode 4 of the Pointy Sticks podcast . It is definitely the get up and dance episode! Yo, DJ, kick it!* So even if you aren’t into knitting or you have never listened to a podcast before – check it out! You can even listen right on your computer! (Well, if you have a working sound card. Which we don’t have in our desktop PC right now.)

* “Yo, DJ, kick it!” is courtesy of the “Sirens of TI” – the show at TI (aka Treasure Island) in Las Vegas. Kymberlie and I decided that even though it was the worst show ever, it was also the funniest – and that was one of our favorite lines.

DeLay Announces Resignation From House…

DeLay Announces Resignation From House

Succumbing to scandal, former Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Tuesday he is resigning from Congress, a move that closes out a career that blended unflinching conservatism with a bare-knuckled political style.

I’m stunned. Speechless. Overjoyed? Is that too strong? Nah, probably not. Every time I see Tom DeLay on TV, I shout “Spawn of Satan!” at him. I’m so glad I don’t live on the south side of Houston, and he was not my representative in the government. But to see him out of there makes me just giddy with glee. Sad, but so true. [via Mac who has a lot more to say about it.]

I can’t wait to see the fall-out of this. Here is the Houston Chronicle’s article about his upcoming resignation and the scandal he is facing. I can’t wait to see what Chuck has to say about this. Oh, it is going to be gooooooood…

[This now concludes my semi-annual political blogging content. Regular content will resume shortly. Thank you.]

Time to Laugh!

Snagged from Elle Jay because it made me laugh:

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him…..a super-calloused fragile mystic vexed by halitosis.

So, do you have a good joke to share?

The Reality Hits Home…

Treebeard's Mural, Market Square I’ll be over in the corner pouting for awhile. Daysies is leaving us behind here in Houston and moving to Dallas. Sure, Dallas is only a few hours away. Sure, I have Vonage, so calling her is free from home, and just a matter of airtime during the day from the cell phone. I don’t get to see her as often as I would like already, so it won’t be that different.

But I know it won’t be the same.

I’m so excited for her & her husband and the opportunity that they have. I wish them nothing but the best. And I hope they know just how much we will miss them back here in Houston.

I’ve known about the move for a week and a half now, but the reality of it didn’t hit home until tonight when I went over to her house to pick up her old TV that they had decided to give away (Jason’s eyes were huge when he saw just how big it is, and he is thrilled that it is up in the gameroom now!) and to get some Stampin’ Up! goodies that she didn’t need anymore. They got to see the new car/truck/SUV – whatever I’m supposed to call it – and it was just great to get to see them.

Then I realized … I might never be in their current house again. I’ll miss her green room, and stamping with her, and … well, them. I’ll miss them both.

She was the first Houston blogger I met online, she is a fellow Libra, and she gets just as obsessed about things as I do. She listens to me when I need to rant, and she has even been known to tell me to stop ranting and to get wise and move on when I needed to hear that advice. We’ve done road trips together. She was one of my assistants at my wedding, helping with the signing of the guest frame and wishing notes and gifts. More important, she helped keep me sane during the wedding planning, and that whole wedding season that year. I converted her to knitting last fall, although after all the Sophies and scarves that she knit, she is now taking a break. She is a fabulous, wonderful person. I can’t possibly say enough good things about her.

I keep reminding myself that she is just a phone call away, and the drive up I-45 isn’t that long. Her parents, her sister, and her father-in-law are here, so I know she’ll be visiting us too. I’m still going to miss her a lot.

I’m Avoiding My Biology Book Right Now…

I have a Biology lab practical on Thursday, followed by a Biology test next Tuesday (over a week away, not 2 days from now) and a Chemistry test this Wednesday. Wednesday is also Mike’s birthday. So I need to study for the Biology lab practical now so I don’t have to study on Wednesday night. I’ll still have to review, because we have to know a total of 35 phylum and class names for this unit. THIRTY-FIVE. I have issues with memorizing names like the phylums and classes. So far, out of the 35, I know phylum Mollusca and class Gastropoda. (Mollusks and Gastropods.) That isn’t going to cut it, so I am trying, hard. It just doesn’t “stick” for me though. Ugh. I’ll be SO GLAD when I am done with this Biology class!

I had to take a break, so I turned to the TiVo. I watched “Cheerleader Nation” and I’m totally hooked. It is about the cheerleaders of a high school in Lexington, Kentucky – which just so happens to be Mike’s hometown. His parents still live there. It is the public high school he would have attended if he had not gone to the Catholic high school. Every time they show the local scenery, including the trees changing colors in the fall, I point out that we should find him a job there and move. It is so beautiful there! Alas, the job is here, and he pointed out last summer when we visited that finding a job there in his field would not be easy.

But, man. What I would give to live somewhere with four seasons again.

Anyways, Cheerleader Nation is juicy but not too cheesy, with plenty of drama but not overly dramatic. Perfect for a study break. If you get a chance, check it out.

I guess I had better return to studying Kingdom Animalia now. Is it May yet?
