I Could Do That…

Since I was complaining (again) about Texas earlier, I should point out the Government Guide to the Most Livable States. The states I would move to within a heartbeat if I could are Minnesota and Massachusetts – which came in at number 1 and number 5 respectively. Texas? 29. You can view the 43 Negative and Positive Factors that they used to come up with the results if you are interested. [via Silflay Hraka … again.]

At least I don’t live in Louisiana or Mississippi though… they are at 49 and 50 on the list. Guess someone has to be last. So, where would you live if you could pick any state to live in?

Interestingly, I am anxious to get out of #5 Massachusetts and move to #15 Maine. Just goes to show that different people have different ideas of *livability*! 🙂

But I have to agree with you about Texas. I have never been there, but I’ve heard enough bitching about it (mostly about the hot weather, which I could never tolerate), that there’s no way I would want to live there!

Well, my reason for picking Minnesota is because of the extended family I have living there (I don’t have any here other than my parents and a cousin that currently lives in Beaumont). Mass. is because of the weather – 4 seasons would be nice, plus the history and quite simply, I like it there. I can deal with Houston, but it will *never* be on my top 5 cities to live in list. The heat alone rules that out.

I think I am going to have to side with Elaine (Cybertoad) on this one. I have lived in Texas all my life and though I have been known to say I would like to live somewhere else, I would only want it to be a temporary thing. I would always want to come back to Texas I know.

Now I’m just bummed. Kentucky came in 42nd. I suppose that if you looked at the state as a whole, that makes sense, though. Hm. Not sure where I’d live if I moved out of Houston. (Got my eye on a few places overseas, but that and a three thirty’ll get you a grande latte, no foam.)

I’d like to cast another vote for TX. I’ve lived here pretty much all my life, and I feel like I’m married to it. Yeah, it has its faults, but I think of them as lovable quirks that I joke about at the water cooler, but love just the same.

Other cities I’d consider living in would be Austin or Washington DC. DC can be just as miserable as Houston, but I just like the environment.

I think there must be some sort of law of reciprocation about this kind of stuff, because Christine M. wants to leave MA for ME, but I left ME for MA and never want to go back. Oh, and I have cousins in MN, if I ever do get tired of my fellow Massholes and need an escape route.

I’ve lived in Iowa, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Wyoming and South Dakota … and now Connecticut. All towards the top. I’d say my favorite place is Minnesota. I ((love)) Minneapolis, Duluth, Leach Lake area. CT ain’t so bad though… just pricey.
