Look Out, Houston!

While reading through – Your Source For Barry Manilow, I was trying to convince Mike that we should go to Boston to see Barry Manilow perform in concert there on October 1st. I thought the shows were limited to Boston, New York, Chicago and Atlanta. (Ok, let’s be honest, I’ll use any excuse I can to get to Boston. But that’s not the point…) I finally scrolled further down the page, and guess what?!?

He’s coming to Houston! Barry Manilow is coming to Houston! November 4th! To Houston! Whooo hooooo!!!

I’m going to have to become a Fanilow just so I can get tickets. I don’t care. I’ve waited something like 25 years to see him live, and I can’t miss this chance!

I’m so excited! Barry is coming to town!

oh you have to go! I took my mom to see him years ago and he pulled her up onstage and sang to her. It’s such a good show and it’s the music I grew up listening to. 🙂

I’ll say this about the guy – his music is classic, but the shows…. Even at his age, he played Dallas in like August wearing a three piece suit…outside. It was like 100 degrees and he went for like 2 1/2 hours with no breaks. Amazing show.

I mean, if you like that sort of thing. 🙂

He’s apparently coming to Philly, but the timing is really awful for me, personally. I adore his music and I’d love to see him perform, but not in October. It would be entirely too creepy. (Quick background: my mother saw Barry in October 1991, shortly before she died. I have too many weird mental things going on in October to add a Barry show to the mix.)

I have no idea when the tickets go on sale, but as soon as I find out I’ll let you know. From what the site says, you have to be a member of the BMIFC to buy tickets, and you are limited to 6. Let’s see … Tom, Kathy, Mike, Me … I wonder who we can convince to go with us?!? 😉

hahahaaaaa…. there’s such a love-hate relationship with Barry Manilow. Most people I know hate him, and they hate him with a fiery passion. The people who love him, though, absolutely ADORE him. Who knew that he can spark those extreme feelings in people of all ages?

Ummm… I can’t say I understand the Manilow-love, but as a kid of the 70’s, I have to admit that his songs were a big part of it. I even know and like the songs… but I have to admit to being in the miniscule minority of those that don’t ADORE him or HATE him. I like him, but that’s as far as it goes. Now if Morrissey would come to Houston… (I know he’s going to be in Dallas, but the tickets are too expensive when you factor in travel time, expense, etc).

Hold on to your seat. I got tickets AND backstage passes… and guess what I JUST FOUND OUT? He isnt coming. NO kidding. The concert is tomorrow and it is being CANCELLED 🙁 It isnt even on Toyota Center’s website yet! (sniff)!!
