While at the coffee shop after my knitting circle gathering tonight (Yes, addicted. I know.), I overheard the following:
Scene: Couple sitting in the corner chatting, having recently met thanks to online personal ads. This might have actually been their first meeting.
Her: I would suggest that you clean up all the typos in your ad though. That is an instant turnoff for me. Really bugs me. I used to be a secretary.
Him: Well, hopefully I won’t need to use the ad for much longer.
… uhm, dude? She just told you to fix your ad. Obviously, she is not swept off her feet by you and begging you to take it down. The fact that she’s talking about all of her ex’s? Big hint. You probably should just go get in the car and leave. Be sure to fix the typos when you get home, ok?
Before they leave:
Him, in total cheese voice: You can be my secretary any time.
Her: (Sound of crickets chirping.)
I almost threw up in my knitting bag.

Oh. My. God. And people wonder why I’ve given up on dating.
If it was such a turn off, why did she bother to meet him? She need free coffee?! hehe
This fall I worked at a coffee house and witnessed a couple meeting off the internet for the first time. They both had ring marks on the left hand, but no wedding ring. They sat way in the back where few could see them and when it was time to go, they staggered their departures. Hmmm…
ha. my wife’s online ad specifically warned potential suitors to have correct grammer and spelling. good thing I knew how to use a spellchecker.
Hahahaha! Thanks for the laugh! 🙂
FUNNY! people are so amusing sometimes.
That’s pretty funny. Poor guy though. Couldn’t get any of those hints she was dropping.
Oh, I feel bad for him. Clearly he’s clueless. Makes me wish I knew him so I could sit him down and do an intervention. He so needs it! You can be my secretary any time? Oh no, no, no.
Seems like she is a fool as well to meet someone who she admitted was “instantly turned off by”
Well, she said that he was nice, etc. – just that she is normally turned off by ads with typos in them.
Maybe she had reached the point where she decided she had to broaden her circle. Or maybe she was looking for a job as a secretary after all…
