Community – Reverb10, Day 7…

Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?

I felt like Community surrounded me in 2010. I made it a goal early in the year to be more active in my local community here in Houston, and thanks to the always awesome JR Cohen and his brilliant brainchild of Support Local, Grow Together, what seemed like countless opportunities opened up to me to mingle more. It was so wonderful the people I met thanks to the SLGT movement!

I’m so glad that Houston has an active and vibrant community on Twitter and Facebook as well. Somehow, without it all, I just wouldn’t feel as connected as I am, and I wouldn’t have met so many cool people!

In addition to all of that, I’ve gotten to watch the Fast Track Photographer group that we started in August of 2009 grow even more this year. We celebrated our one year birthday in August and we’ve had a whole bunch of great people come and share their knowledge with the group – specifically cool people that I met thanks to SLGT. Love it when things come full circle like that!

In 2011, I want to continue to spend even more time out and about. It is so easy for me to hole up at the house when I’m not working. I’m an introverted extrovert. Once I get out, I’m fine and have a great time, but sometimes I get so freaked out about going out and mingling. I’m working to get over it, and I’ve improved a lot from where I was at. Living 30+ minutes from the center of Houston doesn’t help though, because there are times I just don’t want to drive. I’ve learned this year to be better about stacking appointments to be on the same day as activities that evening so that I’m already out and don’t have the distance issue.

I also want to work on building up the Houston Fast Track Photographer community even more. There are so many great photographers here in Houston, and we all have so much to offer one another. The same goes for the SLGT community. I just see so many great opportunities, and I love connecting people with one another.

I can’t wait to see what 2011 holds!

White Linen Night Time Again!

It is time to get your white linen out and ready for the annual White Linen Night Event at the studio! Come out and see work by JenXer (Jennifer Mathis), our featured artist this year. Elaine & I will have our art photography on display as well. Doesn’t your home need some new art?

We’ll have sweet treats from Porch Swing Desserts and beer from Saint Arnolds. Good times throughout the Heights! (Read all about it over on my much longer post. I don’t want to repeat too much in case you read that already!)

You can RSVP on our Facebook event page or just leave a note here. We would love to see you!

Sweet Baby Charlotte…

Charlotte & Emily

It is such a blessing to be able to capture chapters of people’s lives for them. It is even more of a blessing when one of those people is a dear, dear friend as well.

Charlotte was born to Emily & Michael at the end of April. When she was 8 days old, I went over to their house – in the midst of all the sw*ne flu hype, house sessions made even more sense, but I always like to photograph newborns at home so that it is easier on mom & dad. That way we can be comfy, take our time, and just enjoy the whole process. If they need to stop to nurse or whatever, it is easy.

I posted a lot more photos over on my other blog but I wanted to share these special ones here because they aren’t just about Charlotte. They are about Emily too, and the bond they will always share.

It was a good day, and I am very humbly blessed to have been a part of this time in their lives. Thank you, Emily & Michael, and especially Charlotte for being a fabulous model!

I think the one below is my favorite from the day. Something about how safe & secure Charlotte looks there. Blissfully at peace.

Different By Nature…

Different By Nature

I have to confess, this may be one of my favorite getting ready photos from a wedding ever. She really wanted one of those hairstyles in that book, and she was really not happy to be told no!

More from Jacque & Joe’s wedding are over on the wedding photography blog.

Sarah & Sean’s Wedding

Sarah & Sean's Wedding - Alone Time

I’ve been friends with Sarah’s mother, Sallie, for a few years now – we met thanks to knitting and discovered early on that we both love the same colors – we’ve even bought almost the same yarn in the past! So I’ve heard about Sarah & Sean for some time now.

When I was asked last year to photograph Sarah & Sean’s wedding, I was super excited. Every wedding is special, but it takes on a special dimension when you know the family personally. I photographed their engagement session in February – my first chance to meet Sean – and had so much fun. I knew it was going to be a special day, and it didn’t disappoint at all!

Thank you again to Sarah & Sean – and both of their families – for letting us be a part of their wedding. If you have a moment, check out the photos from their engagement session and the sneak preview of their wedding on the wedding photography blog.
