Yes, It’s Barry…

Manilow

A few months ago, I decided it was time to clear off my key chain. I had an old apartment key on it which one time I had to contact the best Locksmith because I lost the keys. A post office key for a mailbox I haven’t had in 5 years. A mystery key that opened a long forgotten lock. Too much clutter. Once I stripped the keychain down, it looked too empty – so I had to add something. Then I remembered my trinket from the Manilow concert last fall, and now Barry is on my keychain.

Last week, my fiber friend Katy (who reads all the knit blogs but still needs one of her own) & I took the boys over to Splashtown. She drove her minivan, so I tossed my keys in the cupholder after I got in. While she was driving she looked down and exclaimed, “That’s BARRY!” Now every time I look at my keys I giggle and think of her awe and amazement over my Manilow keychain. (I’m sure she was in awe and amazed. She couldn’t have been terrified and shocked.)

So, what’s on your keychain? Are there keys lingering there that have no home anymore? Cute keychains that bring back happy memories? Have a photo to share? Come on, we want to see them! (If you’re on Flickr, I’ve created a keychains group!)

My keychain has a keychain (well, a ring that attaches to the main one) for work keys, of which there are many, for the front door, for closets, for locked cabinets…

My regular keychain has key to the lobby door, key to mailbox, 2 keys for the apartment locks, and car key. The charm or whatever the non-key thing is called, is a brass ornament that says: Ms. Magazine: Opening Doors. I got the keychain back in 1980 or so when I got my Ms. Mag subscription.

Sorry, no photos.

I have 2 house keys, one to a house in Bakersfield I haven’t been to in 2 years. I also have an old key that my husband gave me before we got married. He didn’t know what it went to but said “It’s the key to my heart.” Although we’re separated now, we’re still friends and the key has never left my key chain.

Mine are pretty practical. In addition to a house key, truck key, car key, gym tag and grocery store tag I have a bottle opener (beer could happen at any time and I want to be ready) and a very small mag light. I also have my dog Betty’s vaccination tag. She died several years ago and I like having the reminder with me.

In other words, more stuff than keys.
