Thanks to Knitting…

Thanks to a pattern at Knitty (the Clapotis, found thanks to YarnHarlot), I have found a simply fabulous new favorite phrase…

“Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort*”

I stand by the original statement I made on the streets of Paris last summer. In order to speak French well, you must say everything really fast, while slurring your words. Unfortunately, I have a “German mouth” and I tend to pronounce things instead of slurring them. Thanks to Mike, I can now say my new phrase with only 1-2 mistakes. My first attempt was a very bad effort by someone who can sight read German very well (I don’t know what I’m saying, but I can pronounce things in German easily.) If you know how to speak French, you will realize that nothing is pronounced like it is spelled, so my sight-reading efforts are simply horrid.

However, when in Paris, I can speak enough rudimentary French to ask a Virgin Record Store employee for “Jenifer’s CD Original.” A girl has got to do what a girl has got to do.

* I’m beautiful and I don’t even try.

Too Cool For School…

As I drove Jason to school this morning, we passed the neighborhood Walgreen store. The billboard pointed out that they are your “Valentine’s Day Headquarters!” I asked Jason if he needs Valentine’s Day cards for school. His response? A very fast, “NO!” I had to laugh when he asked me why I thought he would need cards.

“So you can tell the ladies that you looooove them.”

Seems that I’m not as cool as I thought I was, because he thought I was nuts when I gave him that response. Unfortunately, I know that in a short time, he’ll be ready. The teenage years are right around the corner.

Knitting for Geeks…

Guess what? After watching the same episode of Knitty Gritty three times, I *think* I have finally figured out how to purl! Do you have any idea how exciting this is? I’m ready to set aside my scarf that I’m knitting just to try to practice it.

Did someone mention a cult? Yeah, I’m so there. Did you catch that I’m already knitting a scarf? I have no clue how to tie on more yarn when I run out of the skein I am working on, but I just don’t care. I can learn that in next week’s class. For now … dude! I can KNIT!!!

(I’ll try to post pictures later today or tomorrow.)

Londonist…

I’m just posting this link so I don’t forget to tell Mike about it later. The Londonist should fulfill his need for the scoop on London.

(Ok, the rest of you might want to read the site too, as it is pretty and interesting. But I had to remember to share it with Mike.)

Meanwhile, I’m drawn to La Coquette. It must be the Eiffel Tower image – or the fact that I love Paris, even though I manage to absolutely butcher French every time I attempt to speak the language.

It’s All About the Ooooooooooo…

I love shopping at Overstock.com. I have bought various things from them over the years – cordless phones, a computer keyboard, little things here and there. Some of the deals can’t be beat, you just have to look for them.

However, I hate their new TV ad campaign. With a passion. I hate how the spokeswoman talks in this ultra-soothing voice, telling us all that, “It’s all about the Ooooooooo.” Seriously leaves you wondering what she is trying to pitch, doesn’t it?

I thought maybe that was just an issue I had with the commercials, but last night at dinner my Dad asked, “What is that commercial with the big ‘O’ for?” I told him that it was for Overstock, and his response? “Oh, I thought it was maybe for some porn company!”

Maybe that is their point? I don’t know. I just don’t get it.
