Dead as a Doornail…

I went to the dentist this afternoon to have my very last crown put into place. Yeah! #5 and we are done! After my appointment I went to leave and had a dead car battery. Fortunately, there was someone nearby to jump my car for me, and it’s a standard so it was easy to put it in neutral and then push it out of it’s space. On my way back to the office I stopped at Sonic to pick up something to eat, and as I backed out of my space my foot slipped off of the clutch and the car stalled. Dead. The engine wouldn’t even turn over, at all. So again, I got a jump and then stopped at the auto supply store so they could test my battery. They told me to turn the car off so they could test it and I said “no way!” I drove back to the office, and sure enough – when I turned it off I couldn’t turn it back on. So I called my Dad to ask him if later on he would come & jump start my car and then follow me to a store to get a new battery. I made it to Sears just as the closed shop. He said my battery was so dead it wouldn’t even register on their reader! Now that is dead as a doornail! But the battery has been replaced and all is well again in Honda land!

Leap Frog!

For Jason’s birthday in April, I would like a LeapFrog Mindstation with an iQuest. Anyone ever use one of these? It looks super cool, and he likes to play educational games as long as they involve a computer. I think it would make a good gift!

Half Way There…

The cake had cooled enough that the giant dome had come down to be a bit more level. I got brave and got out my Tupperware cake tote thingie and flipped the cake on to the bottom of the carrier. It almost all came out too! Just a little stuck in one corner. I tasted that part – yummmm…

It’s still warm, so I am going to wait until the morning to frost it – although I might do the “crumb layer” now as Sabby suggested. That way it has a chance to set before I frost the rest. I’m feeling a bit more Betty Crocker-like now. Whew! My reputation of being a Betty Crocker Wannabe might come out unscathed!

Betty Crocker Wannabe…

The cake is in the oven – something yummy like “Chocolate Butter Fudge”. Smells delicious. The cream cheese and the chocolate frostings are ready & waiting. Now, one question… how do I get the thing out of the pan & frosted? Well, the obvious is how to get it out of the pan – but I am not a cake baker. Normally I cheat and just frost it in the pan! I want to do it right, and I could use some tips! Should I take it out of the pan 30 minutes after it comes out of the oven? Or wait until the morning? How about frosting it without getting crumbs all over? Any tips or tricks you want to share?

By the way, I licked the beaters. After I used them, as I was cleaning up. If I die of salmonella poisoning, you’ll know why. Any other beater lickers out there? I’ve always done it. To me, it’s just not baking if you don’t like the beaters! Betty Crocker would be so ashamed…

Update: It’s out of the oven, and the edges are a little darker then they should be. I need to get an oven thermometer, I think this oven runs hot. Anyways, it’s also mounded up quite high in the middle. Uh oh! Now I’m worried that when I flip it out of the pan it will break into 2 pieces! Eek! Maybe it will “deflate” as it cools. Oh Betty Crocker, please have mercy on me…

There Was a Post…

There was a post here for about 2 minutes. It was full of babble about things I haven’t thought about in close to 6 months. I realized that my rambling just might make it sound like I did actually think about it. So I deleted it. That said, I like me, I don’t dwell on the past, and if you have something negative to say in my comments leave an e-mail address or URL, and remember that if I feel like it’s too mean I just might delete it. In case you wondered, I am in a GREAT mood, because there is nothing more wonderful then the smell of warm clean laundry & chocolate cake in the oven…
