My Latest Plane Ride…

I had the most surreal plane ride yesterday – a wonderful flight, even though they made us sit on the runway for 40+ minutes before we took off. I sat between a rapper and a man with a 2 lb. Maltese teacup dog, Cupcake.

And if that doesn’t sound like the start of a crazy joke, I don’t know what does.

Thanks to David and Alan for making it an awesome flight though, and to Cupcake for making me smile with her adorable cuteness! (Yes, I took a photo of the dog. I didn’t want to pester DAS It and take one of him too … I regret that a little bit now though.)

Oh, and it is only 50 degrees here right now in Mendocino, California. I can’t even begin to tell you how giddy that makes me!

Kate & John’s Wedding!

IMG_2017a

Oh goodness, how much I adored working with Kate & John – their wedding last weekend was gorgeous! Want to see more from their big day? Check out the full post!

While I don’t normally get into editing my photos too extreme – I like to keep the colors natural – I decided to play a bit with this one, and I’m pretty thrilled with the results!

Fifty Most Influential Female Bloggers…

I am finding all sorts of great sites on this list of 50 most Influential Female Bloggers – but I have to confess that I squealed out loud (and twittered my excitement) when I saw that the Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, is listed as number 15! FIFTEEN!!! That is so awesome!

I still remember commenting to Matt at SxSWi back in 2005 or so that knitbloggers rule the world. This proves it, right?

Oh, and an added bonus? The photo that they used for the site? One of mine! I took it when she came to Houston for a book signing at my local yarn shop, Twisted Yarns. I thought it looked familiar…

Wholly Matrimony!

Wholly Matrimony! (Steal this button.) I haven’t been over here the past few days because I’ve been over there. Where? Wholly Matrimony!

Wholly Matrimony was started in 1998 by Robyn. As her life changed, the site lived a quiet existence. Her two sons, who are less than two years apart in age, took up all of her free time when she wasn’t busy taking fabulous baby photographs.

Meanwhile, my life changed too. I because immersed in the wedding industry. And I longed for the good old days, when WM! was alive and flourishing. (You know, when I wasn’t busy taking wedding photographs.)

Then, with a flash of brilliance, while I was visiting Florida in June, 2008 – I wrote to Robyn and asked her if I could take over WM! – and she said yes!

So now the static HTML site is moving over to a blog, with all of the content moving into place on the site. There is still a lot of work to do behind the scenes, but meantime – the blog itself is under way! Check it out!

If you like it, take the button and post it on your site with a link back over to whollymatrimony.com – and THANKS!

(Oh, and if you’re interested, submissions are being accepted for consideration. Let me know if you have something you want to share.)

Finding The Perfect Gift…

Ok, I have to confess that sometimes, I really struggle to come up with the perfect gift. I am always overwhelmed by too much “stuff” and most of the time I would rather let someone just buy exactly what they want instead of coming up with something for them that they don’t really need.

I don’t mind receiving gift cards, but I don’t like giving them. I don’t mind using wishlists, but sometimes I like to surprise someone with the perfect gift they never even thought to wish for. Going off the grid is fun. This yeat I actually found something that is worth giving, these custom blacksmith knives are perfect for surprising anybody who loves collecting knifes.

And then there is the fact that Mike has been known to buy *exactly* what I plan on buying for him just weeks before a gift giving occasion, or he bursts my bubble and ruins my perfectly planned surprise by telling me that he has come up with the perfect idea — which was exactly what I had planned for weeks or even months to get him. Yes, this has happened several times. This year, he is banned from even suggesting gifts to me. This is his public notice.

So back to my original point … finding the perfect gift. It isn’t easy. But this morning, I found the Gifts.com Gift Finder and after playing with it a bit, I think it might make my gift giving this year a little bit easier. Hopefully it will help you out too.
