Jennifer & David

At the beginning of September, I had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Jennifer & David with Jennifer & Dennis Wilson of Silver Plate Photography of New Braunsfels, Texas. Whew! How is that for a confusing sentence? Jennifer Wilson contacted me this summer and asked me to photograph the wedding with her husband, as she was a bridesmaid in the wedding so she was going to have to put down the camera for a change. It is always such an honor to work with another photographer in a situation like this, because she was contacting me for one of her long-time personal friends. It was such a beautiful day, and we all had a great time.

The wedding was at the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, and the reception was at the Crystal Ballroom of the Rice Hotel. The band was awesome – Jennifer even got up and sang with them! – and the day was just FUN!

Birthday Wishes

Add Another Candle to the Cake!

Ahhh… while Mike is still out of town for the start of my birthday day, it has still gotten off to a wonderful start. Many thanks to my Mom for the birthday lunch (a day early, as I have an engagement session today with Mercedes & Tim), to Elaine for the early birthday wishes phone call, and to Jason for offering to share Halo 3 with me. The day is off to a good start, and will only get better when Mike arrives home later today!

AT LAST!!!

Do you know what today is? Huh? Huh? Do you know what today is? Huh?

Halo 3 comes out TODAY!

I need to go pick up Jason’s copy from my Mom, and in about 3 hours from now the battle will begin over me making him do homework first BEFORE he gets to play Halo 3. I will win. I will be victorious. It will be a difficult fight though, so I am preparing myself. Or he will go for his alternative tactic of being super willing to do anything and everything I ask so he can get what he wants. It always throws me when he does that, but I am prepared for anything today!

I seriously thought this day would never come. I’ve been hearing a countdown for it ALL SUMMER LONG. I am so glad it is finally here!

I’m Back!

So, did you miss me? Yesterday, the server came falling in on itself, and took all of my sites along with it. *sigh* It was not a good day. No email when you’re trying to work with both clients and a magazine deadline is just frustrating. Matter of fact, there were a number of events over a 24 hour period that drove me a little bit crazy. Then, *poof!* it all got a lot better.

Lets just focus on the positive: Thursday night, we went to see Jonathan Coulton, along with Paul & Storm who were his opening act and backup singers on some songs. They were all fabulous, and even kind enough to let me photograph them individually holding my latest sock. On Friday, Katy & I went to sit & knit at Twisted Yarns, and Brittany brought me Oreo Cookie cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory because I was jealous of hers on Tuesday at the Harlot event. Seriously, how bad can life be when people bring you cheesecake? Then, after I cleared up the last of the craziness that happened yesterday afternoon, I got to go out to the second half of the 600 sq mi artist’s reception. Thanks to Tracy, the other Christine (aka Aggie Christine) and to Tracy’s friend for listening to me rant. That helped a LOT. Then Elaine & I had a client meeting with a potential bride & groom, along with her parents. We wrapped up the night with a delicious dinner and chatting in the parking lot of the restaurant. After I got home, I talked to Mike for one last time in London — he is on a flight heading for Houston as I type this — and got in a much needed good night of sleep. Ahhhhhhh…

So now I’m back, and things just seem a bit brighter after all the zoomy craziness of the past 48 hours. This is good, because I don’t know how much more of that I could have taken.

Tonight, Elaine & I will be photographing a black tie birthday party in downtown Houston, so all the batteries are charging, the camera is all cleaned up, and I am getting pumped up for that. It is going to be like a wedding reception, just without the wedding beforehand!

Thanks to everyone that helped identify the crazy bug. I knew when I photographed it that it wasn’t a crane fly (I recognize those as we get them around our house all the time) and that it looked a bit menacing with that long stinger looking thing. We’re pretty sure now that it was a Giant Ichneumon, related to the wasp but harmless (at least to humans) and just scary looking.

The Harlot Came to Houston!

The Yarn Harlot

I took this photo of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, aka The Yarn Harlot right after she wrote “To Christine: Smart ass.” in my book. I kept laughing about that for the rest of the night. I simply adore her.

The rumors are true, I did manage to interview Stephanie briefly for the next PointySticks podcast. However, today I am completely wiped out, feeling a bit puny, and thinking that my total lack of sleep lately is catching up with me. So no finished podcast YET, but it will be done soon. Meanwhile, I have some Koigu and a Gypsy Shawl project calling my name…

WTF?

None of us could identify what the heck this bug was. It is a good thing that Stephanie was inside signing books and never saw it, because she already thinks Texas is bizarre. Lizards, giant roaches, and huge spiders, she has been trying to figure out how to get rid of a spider problem for decades. Now this strange bug. Any ideas what it is? (Click here to view it larger.)
