Calling All Geeks and Knitters!

It is that time of year again. SXSW starts this coming Saturday. We will be there – will you?

(Now you know the reason behind the mad rush to fancy up the Fresh Photography site!)

Not only will this be a festival full of geeks, but on top of that there will be events for the knitters too! I met Julia at SXSW thanks to her Clapotis, so it will be fun to return with her after all this time. I am a much better knitter now than I was then. Not only will we be at the conference, but there are plenty of knitting things to go around!
– Saturday morning Sit & Knit at … ok, Austin peeps. Help remind me where it is at.
– Saturday evening at 6:30 – knit gathering at Hill Country Weavers. Vickie Howell of Knitty Gritty has a panel at SXSW that ends at 6pm, so you have time to do both! I can guarantee right now that I will be late for this. I know that there is no way I will make it out of that session at precisely 6pm, get together with Mike, get to the car, and get to HCW. I will try, but I don’t have a good vibe about it at all.
– Sunday at lunchtime, back at Hill Country Weavers, 11am – 1pm is the bloggers meet & great! My attendance at this one depends on what panels conflict with it, but I’m going to try to be there.

Hope to see you in Austin!

Oops!

Want to know how out of it I was when I wrote that last post? I left off the one piece of information that was the main reason I wrote the post! Ha!

I was going to apologize for owing people e-mails about taking pictures for them. I think I have e-mailed everyone now, and I need to write out more responses either tonight or in the morning. They are coming!

I am also tweaking the FreshPhotography site more, changing the layout a little bit to give the photos themselves some more real estate, speaking of real estate, own it detroit is actually the company my cousin used to find the best house for their family. If you see anything wonky, let me know. My eyes are starting to cross from staring at it for too long. I do have to say, “Yeah! ME!” though – I made changes that were very weird in IE, I fixed the issue, I made the background not repeat, and it all looks right again. Now I just need to get the bottom blue box to be a bit more narrow. It still needs … something. I think there will be some Flash action before long. I feel the need for Flash.

(Although I realize it drives Jeff batty. I am at least planning on using a system that should allow permalinks to the archive pages!)

Podcasts and Cats…

Murphy is home and doing fairly well. He is whining a lot, but I guess I would too if I had stitches. I am sure they itch. He has a bandage around his neck, and for how fluffy his body is it makes him look like he is a pinhead. It is funny and pathetic at the same time. He looks like a trainwreck, as the vet assistant said when I went to pick him up yesterday. He cries off and on, and is only happy when you scratch his head for him. He is already jumping up on the couch again, so I can tell that even with his complaining he is feeling better.

Mona, our other cat, and Chloe, the Bichon, both acted odd while Murphy was gone. Especially Chloe. Everyone is back to normal now, except I think Chloe thinks she needs to guard Murphy or something like that. When he starts whining, she starts pacing.

On top of getting ready for the Yale Street Market tomorrow (3rd Anniversary of the market!), I wrapped up Episode 15 of the Pointy Sticks Podcast. It is another knit chat format show with Staci, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Let me know what you think if you listen to it!

Now it is time to wrap up the new 11×14 prints that I got for the show tomorrow. They came out FANTASTIC and I can’t wait to share them. I’ve also been adding more prints to Fresh Photography and updating what is available for sale on the site. The fun, it never ends!

Wanted, Your Smiling Face…

laughter
You must admit, all good weddings include throw-back-the-head laughter during the middle of the ceremony.

This blog, over the years, has lead me to many great and wonderful things, good times, fabulous friends and ultimately, an amazing husband. (It has also caused a few headaches, but we won’t go there.) So when I have a need, why not turn here?

As I’ve spent more and more time thinking about it, I realize I have always wanted to be a photographer. Why bother denying the dream? Oh, wait, I already am a photographer. I even sell my photographic work. (FreshPhotography.org in case you didn’t know that already.)

Now I think I am ready to take it to the next level. This is the part where you can help.

Dancing LouI am looking for the following photographer opportunities in Houston, Texas or the nearby areas:
– Child photography
– Newborn photography
– Pet photography
– Wedding photography
– Senior photography
– Whatever sort of event, corporate, or any other form of photography you might possibly need

What do you (or your friends) get out of it? A free photographer (if you book the session by May, 2007, until I build up the portfolio). Prints will have to be paid for, and I can work out a price list for that. What do I get out of it? A chance to build up my portfolio. The only catch? You have to be willing to sign a document stating that I can post your photos online and use them in any print portfolio I might have. Of course, all identities will be hidden, and I can address any other concerns you might have.

I am also willing to travel to Austin or Dallas or any nearby area to do this work. Julia, I am looking at you with your first grandchild on the way! Leia, your wedding is already on my calendar!

So? What do you guys think? Any takers? Feel free to leave a comment here or send me an e-mail at christine at this domain.com.

(PS – No news on Murphy yet. Cleaning up the abcess is done, but we don’t pick him up from the vet until 6pm tonight.)

Poor Murphy!

Several years ago our cat Murphy developed an ear infection. We tried everything to clear it up, but nothing worked. The vet was at a loss about it, and we were told that Murphy might not be with us much longer.

He has normally been in general good spirits and spunky, despite walking around with his head turned slightly to the side – a result of the ear infection.

Yesterday, Jason said that Murphy had a lump on his neck (a bit below and behind his ear). Or as he called it all day long, a tumor. I just assumed it was an abcess of some form, and that it would just go away.

Today it is oozing nasty brown stuff that smells so nasty I almost lost it as I cleaned it off. I cleaned it off his neck, then touched his neck again and more oozed out. Ewwwww… His fur is too thick for me to really see what is going on, and he doesn’t like me messing with it. Plus it was making me queasy just cleaning it on the surface. We now have a vet appointment for 5pm.

I’m really scared about what they are going to tell us. Murphy is limp and he looks thin and weak, compared to his normal self. *sigh*

Update: We just got back from the vet. It is an abcess that has burst. Most likely, he and Mona got in a scuffle at some point in time and he got a scratch and this was the end result. He is spending the night at the vet’s office, and is scheduled to be put under anesthesia in the morning so that they can cut the fur in the area and clean out the wound.
