Festival Update, Again…

Sold!

The above mohair goat (aka angora goat, but that makes no sense since you get mohair fiber from them) was photographed when I visited Koenig Farms in the summer of 2005 during my trip to Kentucky. They were kind enough to share with us the goat to yarn experience, and I still have some of their fiber waiting for me to spin it up.

I considered printing and matting him for the show last weekend, but almost didn’t do it. It isn’t a perfect photo, but it is one I really like. I think it is those mohair curls that get me. So I took it after all, and it ended up being the very first print I sold. It was bought by the president of KANG (the Knit at Night Guild) for a Christmas gift. It makes me happy to know it is going to a knitterly home.

(You too can own one of these prints. Just let me know – it is available in either a 5×7 or 8×10, with or without mat.)

Elaine took photos of our booth on Saturday, and this one is my favorite. It seems to capture the magical glow that our booth had, doesn’t it? We will be back on the first Saturday in January, so mark your calendar and come on out and see us!

Welcome Baby Emma!

I can’t believe I didn’t get online long enough on Sunday to post about this – Baby Emma has arrived! Hanna had her baby girl on Sunday morning! She is so beautiful – I can’t wait to see her in person! (You know I have great plans to photograph her. I wonder if taking pictures once a week would be a bit over the top?)

Congratulations to Michael & Hanna!

Spotting the Handknits…

The amusing thing for me about Saturday was the parade of handknits that I saw. I spotted a lady wearing a nice lace shawl that I could tell was handknit. I asked her if she made it, and she said no – her daughter-in-law did. It was a nice conversation opener, and we discussed that it was a cotton/linen blend because she doesn’t like wool – it is too “scratchy.”

I really should have made her feel my Mountain Colors 4/8ths wool scarf that I was wearing, because it is not scratchy at all. But we must be careful in converting the non-knitters over to the wooly side.

The one that amused me the most was the man that I spotted at the end of the row of booths walking towards us. I knew, even from far away, that his sweater was not possibly machine made. Those cables were a thing of beauty that no machine could produce. Ok, maybe a machine could, but I just knew.

Turns out that he was wearing his grandfather’s sweater from Austria. He was from Munich (woot! Munich!) and his sweater is a part of the “traditional” German attire. Think lederhosen and things like that. It was wool – that I will admit had a little scratch to it when I dared to cautiously touch his arm, because again, we don’t want to scare the non-knitters. It was a lovely khaki/beige color, and it was beautiful. I really wish I had asked him to pose for a photograph, but I was in such awe of the sweater I really wasn’t thinking clearly. It actually reminded me a lot of the sweater which Victor made and posted about back in September.

Now I can’t focus on my Trig, because I want to knit a sweater. Right away. One that will keep me warm in the cold when I go north for the holidays. Must knit a sweater. NOW.

Too Good. Can’t Sleep.

The show yesterday went so well! It was just really great to get out there and to have other people see our work. The cold seemed to keep some people away, and some vendors told me that this month was quieter for them then it has been in the past. It was still fun, and I think our photographs were really well-received.

Friday was a loooong day, and we didn’t get much sleep at all. We were there to set up by 8:20 in the morning, opened at 10:00, and broke the booth down after 6:30 or so. I picked up Jason, came home, ate dinner, and promptly crashed before 10:00 pm. I woke up, wide awake, at 4:02 this morning. I could not get back to sleep because I laid in bed and kept running over in my mind how well everything went. I can’t wait for next month!

As an added perk, it was so great to get to see so many people! At one point we had our own little Flickr Mixr right at our booth even. It was so fabulous. I really, really appreciate everyone who was able to come out and see us, it really made the day even more special.

I’m rambling because I’m so giddy, and my hand is hurting as I have probably done way too much with it this weekend. Time to stop typing, so I will share more tales from today later on. Elaine took photos too, so I will post them when I can get them from her.

The Big Day!

Today is the big day! We have a *ton* of prints matted and in bags, and they look GREAT! (By a ton, I mean over 100 in each size, except the 11×14 prints. Only a few of those.) In just a few hours, we will be set up and selling images. It is supposed to be a bit warmer today, and based on yesterday’s temperature it will be perfect as far as the weather. I am so excited! I can barely wait. They look SO good in the mats and ready to go.

If you are in the Houston area, please come to the Yale Street Market and see us! We would love to have a chance to see you and share our work with you. Also, as this is our first show and it is the holiday season, we are offering a holiday special on our 5×7 and 8×10 prints! I’ll be extending it to internet orders once I finish setting up the cart and the website. The calendars are almost ready too.

Did I mention how excited I am?!? Come out for the holiday fun in the Heights! Wassal, live music, festive decorations, and nice weather. Perfect for getting into the holiday spirit!
