Patterns Galore…

I think I have finally found “the” pattern! I want to make these Wrist Warmers for when my classes are freezing cold. [via Chickybabe’s Drive-by Knitting.]

I am also considering Eris for my first sweater. I love the cardigan version! I will admit that I am scared by the fact that the pattern is 40 pages long.

I think I should show up at my Biology final sporting the DNA scarf and the Flying Spaghetti Monster hat.

So I want to knit all of these things and so much more. Oh, did I mention that I can’t knit on anything larger than a US 2 needle right now? Anything else causes quick hand numbness? So … yeah. But a girl can dream…

Bitter Sock Knitter…

I’m really annoyed at my Trekking XXL 100 socks right now. I was so inspired by Liz’s Trekking socks, I bought the yarn months ago. I am not sure if I had even knit a pair of socks yet when I bought the yarn, but I loved it. The colors of her socks were bea-u-tiful!

Mine? Well, they started out similar to hers. Very bold. Mike called them vivid. I was happy. It is a fun, easy knit in a k3-p1 rib. Then I turned the heel on the first sock, and there was a knot in the yarn, where it changed. The colors completely changed at that knot. I’m bitter.

I knew the socks wouldn’t match. I’ve been telling myself that since I was about 1″ into the first sock. (I like to make my stripes match, so I had to convince myself that this was ok.) But this goes beyond the stripes not matching. It looks like they are knit with two completely different colors of yarn. Grrrr.

The only thing I can do, I think, is to take the first sock apart – I’ve already closed the toe and woven in the ends – and reknit it. I will have to frog the second sock as well. When I knit them again, I’ll have to alternate the yarn. Mix it up a little. Hopefully they won’t look so bad then.

I’m a bit crazy and slightly eccentric, but I don’t want to look like I’m wearing completely different socks. I just can’t do it.

(I’ll add photos later tonight, once I figure out how to get the card reader to work on this computer.)

I Have an Itch…

A collection of random thoughts because I’ll forget to blog about it all later:

– I had a Chemistry quiz yesterday, and she had the answer key on the desk for us to view when we turned it in. I might have made a 99 because I keep getting my significant figures jacked up on my answers, and I put 2.77 instead of 2.8 or something crazy like that. Otherwise, I rocked it. Whoo hoo! I love Chemistry.

– The same can not be said for Biology. I was really dreading today’s test, and I walked out once again really unsure of my grade. It was 66 multiple choice questions plus two essay questions. I am really starting to hate multiple choice questions. I did ok on the material from Chapter 12, the Cell Cycle, and I lucked out as that was an essay option. I wrote a page worth of stuff on it. The Cell Cycle is the beginning of our work on DNA and genetics and so forth, and I am looking forward to the upcoming material.

– Speaking of writing, in the never ending drama of my hand pain, not only do I have Carpal Tunnel, I also have De Quervain’s Disease in my right thumb. Irritated by all the writing I am doing this semester. (You know, the pushing a pen on paper type of writing.) The fun never ends. I’ll share more about the latest hand saga later because there is so much more to say. I think I may have this disease, but I´m not sure, I was reading this reportshealthcare article and it may be serious.

– Of course, since my hand is in a splint and my knitting is very limited, I *really* want to knit right now. BAD. I know what I want to knit. I want to get my hands on the yarn right at this very second. GAH! But I can’t. Because my damn thumb is numb most of the time, and knitting isn’t a good thing.

– I will take my knitting with me while I go visit Kymberlie. Her Dad is out of surgery, the cancer seems to have been contained within his kidney, and the prognosis is good. He was in recovery when we talked earlier.

– Speaking of knitting, I’m gathering my thoughts on a series of “How to get started” posts. Tips and tricks and all sorts of goodies!

Hitting the Books…

I should be studying, I know. Instead I had to hunt for the DNA Scarf pattern. See, Daysies has become hooked on fiber (which is entirely my fault! Whee!) and she called me with fiber questions. So we were going through sites, and you know how it is … one thing leads to another, and before you know it I saw that some other blogger was knitting this scarf.

Now I can focus on knitting a double helix while I study for my Biology test. See, completely appropriate. I wasn’t goofing off at all.

(There are a lot of links to other patterns at Knitting Pattern Central. There is even a page just for the scarves. Daily Knitter has free patterns also.)

Rain, Rain, Go Away…

I have a feeling that the complete downpour of rain is going to really cut into the number of trick-or-treaters that we are going to get at our door.

This is probably a good thing, since I have a Biology test tomorrow and I want to see all the kids in their costumes.
