Island Time…

Today we decided to head south for some time on Galveston Island. It has been a long time since we have made a trip down there, which is strange. Considering how close it is, I always wonder why we don’t go more often. We love it down there. (So much that we had our wedding down there almost 2 years ago!) As an added perk, Mike drove, so I got to knit two more rows on my Half Pi shawl. Just 12 more to go!

I needed to get some photos taken for my photography class, and Jason and Mike were my “models” for some of the shots. I hope they turn out as well as I think they will – especially the one of Mike jumping up in the air! (“Stop Motion” photo for one of my assignments.) We took photos along the beach, the Strand, and of the church museum where we were married.

We also went to one of the gift shops along the Seawall to pick up seashells for my Biology scavenger hunt. Yes, the teacher already said that we could buy them. If we bring in about 40 items off the list, we can get up to 3% added to our overall grade for the class. Considering I made a low C on my first lab practical and my first test, I need every point I can get. (I did manage to make a 83.3 – which is a B – on my latest lab practical, so that helps get me closer to the B I am trying to make in the class!)

A quick shopping trip along the Strand to get hermit crabs for Jason wrapped up our day. Why do I get the feeling that I am going to end up taking care of them in the long run? Oh well, if they die at least I can add them to my scavenger hunt! After we picked up the hermit crabs we had dinner at Fuddruckers on the Strand and then headed for home.

What a nice, relaxing day. I needed that. I can always use more time down by the Gulf. We have talked about renting a beach house for a week this summer, but still need to figure out the logistics of doing it. I think it would be a nice chance for a get-away without having to go very far away. We are still tossing around ideas for a vacation trip this year, but haven’t narrowed down yet where it is we want to go. Why can’t money grow on trees so we can travel to all the places we want to go and visit all the relatives we want to see?

Yarntopia Fleece Artist

The custom color made just for Yarntopia by Fleece Artist. They were all out of the sock yarn already, but I signed up for the “Yarntopia Sock-along” while I was at the shop today!

Happy Birthday, Mike!

Today is Mike’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Mike!

I could go on and on, blabbering about how wonderful he is – because trust me, he is truly amazing. Best husband ever. Jason & I could never ask for more. However, I’m not going to go on and on about it right now because I have a Chemistry test in just over an hour!

Mike was the guest DJ for episode 4 of the Pointy Sticks podcast . It is definitely the get up and dance episode! Yo, DJ, kick it!* So even if you aren’t into knitting or you have never listened to a podcast before – check it out! You can even listen right on your computer! (Well, if you have a working sound card. Which we don’t have in our desktop PC right now.)

* “Yo, DJ, kick it!” is courtesy of the “Sirens of TI” – the show at TI (aka Treasure Island) in Las Vegas. Kymberlie and I decided that even though it was the worst show ever, it was also the funniest – and that was one of our favorite lines.

Does My Foot Make this Slipper Look Fat?

I showed Jason my new slipper last night (I’ll be finishing the pair today) and he told me that he thought it was a little bit too big. I’m not sure why? *grin* (It is going to be felted, and it will shrink in the process.)

It is actually cold here right now – by my standards at least – so I figured if I knit these up really fast and get them felted, I might get to wear them a little bit before the heat comes back! Yeah! Cold weather!

Use What You Have…

Use What You HaveMy yarn stash overfloweth. I do not need any more yarn. I may want more yarn, but want and need are two very different things. I’ve been thinking recently that I really need to crank out some projects before I can justify the purchase of any more yarn. I have several projects in line now.

I should qualify that by pointing out that I normally only buy yarn if I have a specific project in mind, and most projects I choose only require 2-3 balls (skeins, hanks, whatever) of yarn. I have never bought enough yarn to make a sweater, so it isn’t crazy yarn mayhem at my house. I just need to get some projects move out.

Last night I spotted “Use What You Have” – what a perfect idea! Just what I needed. For the entire month of April, NO yarn purchases. (Or any other crafty goodies for that matter.) I will only knit what I already own.

Just one problem with this plan. (How sad is it that within an hour I realized there was a problem?) Yarntopia opens on April 3rd, with the grand opening soiree on April 8th. Amy already caught me swooning over some of the sock yarn they have when I was there last week. If I could have purchased it last week, it would already be mine. It was so fabulous! But with the “Use What You Have” going on, I can’t buy it. I have to wait until May. Or figure out if she will take a credit card in March and just let me pick it up in April. That would be ok, right?

Why are you looking at me like that?

Another temptation is the newly discovered Hill Country Yarns sock yarn. (2006 is after all the year of the sock.) I first saw it at Sheryl’s blog (the other owner of Yarntopia) and I am in love. I want that yarn. However, I know it will be waiting for me in May. I promise, I’ll work through the stash first.
