Not So Private After All…

In my years of blog hosting, I’ve often had clients request a way to register a domain while keeping their identity private. People do it for a variety of reasons – they want to talk about their boss, their ex-wife, whatever. Within the past year, I’ve sent them to one registrar in particular because they offered a “privacy” option.

It turns out that it isn’t so private after all.

Go read about the fact that they will “out” you if they feel the need, without following any of their own guidelines in the process. Good luck to Alan as he deals with the problems they have caused by making his private information available to the public.

Yes, It’s Barry…

Manilow
A few months ago, I decided it was time to clear off my key chain. I had an old apartment key on it which one time I had to contact the best Locksmith because I lost the keys. A post office key for a mailbox I haven’t had in 5 years. A mystery key that opened a long forgotten lock. Too much clutter. Once I stripped the keychain down, it looked too empty – so I had to add something. Then I remembered my trinket from the Manilow concert last fall, and now Barry is on my keychain.

Last week, my fiber friend Katy (who reads all the knit blogs but still needs one of her own) & I took the boys over to Splashtown. She drove her minivan, so I tossed my keys in the cupholder after I got in. While she was driving she looked down and exclaimed, “That’s BARRY!” Now every time I look at my keys I giggle and think of her awe and amazement over my Manilow keychain. I’m sure she was in awe and amazed. She couldn’t have been terrified and shocked, and just hit the breaks, but luckily she didn’t but we still learned about rear-end collisions and how they work legally.

So, what’s on your keychain? Are there keys lingering there that have no home anymore? Cute keychains that bring back happy memories? Have a photo to share? Come on, we want to see them! (If you’re on Flickr, I’ve created a keychains group!)

My Boring Ass Life…

Dude. Kevin Smith has a blog. “My Boring Ass Life” – how cool is THAT??? [via Matt.]

Now if Kymberlie reads my site, she’ll have something to post about in her Blogathon posts in the middle of the night. Which would be appropriate, since I saw my first Jay & Silent Bob movie with her. Go sponsor her – she is blogging for a good cause.

Call Me, Baby…

Motorola V551 Phone (Cingular)Yeah! I got a new phone! I’m mobile again! Wheeeeee!!! And it is a pretty phone too, with lots of cool features and … I’m so excited! I got the Motorola V551. Since our contract was almost up, we were eligible for the upgrade so we got it at a great price. Now I just need to find a headset for it and get a car charger, and I’m all set. (I rely on the car charger a lot, and I always use a headset when I’m driving.) They were all out of the bluetooth special headsets, and I wasn’t about to spend $50 on one today.

Anyone have a Bluetooth headset that they recommend? Or is the sound better if I just stick with the regular corded headset?

Also on the phone front, we are formally switched over to Vonage after a relatively painless process! We ordered it at the very end of July, and put in the phone number transfer request the very same day. SBC actually had their act together for a change – instead of the “20 business days” as originally predicted, it took less than a week to move the phone number over. By Thursday, calls to our home number were coming through on the Vonage phone line.

Vonage ROCKS in about a million ways. You can check your voicemail online. You can be notified by e-mail of your voicemail messages, and even have the audio clip sent there if you want. You can tell Vonage to call an alternate number (such as your cell phone) if you don’t answer your home phone after so many seconds. The only static I’ve had so far is because I’ve got the cordless phone base and the WiFi router sitting right next to one another. I need to move the phone base, and that should take care of it.

Want to sign up for Vonage? Let me know – I can send you a referral link via e-mail, and we will both get some free service time! How cool is that? I love Vonage. (If you want more info on it, let me know – I’m happy to share the Vonage love!)

BloggerTwin Powers, Activate!

Reasons CBS Should Cast the BloggerTwins on The Amazing Race (copied from their website, spotted first at Marmalade.ca.)

1. We’re bloggers. Casting us will give them an immediate fan-base of millions of bloggers.
2. Give two nice boys from the Midwest a chance to win a million dollars so they can build their disabled mother a wheelchair-accessible house.
3. Casting bloggers on a reality TV show is a fantastic idea.
4. We’re not semi-professional actors or models.
5. Everyone likes twins.
6. We’re huge online geeks who both met our girlfriends online.
7. Bald is Beautiful.
8. “Bloggertwin Powers…Activate!”

Ok, I *swear* – I wrote the title of the post before I read #8. See, great minds think alike. CBS really needs to pick these guys. They want to win so the can build their Mom a wheelchair accessible house. How sweet is THAT?

Add to that the fact that I’ve met Cameron in person at SXSW, and his dry wit would be FANTASTIC on the show!

Come on CBS, spare us one of the “we want to figure out where our relationship is going” couples and bring on the BloggerTwins!
