Getting There…

Sudafed, lots of water, lots of sleep, two chick flicks (The Prince and Me and Uptown Girls) and I’m doing a lot better than I was this morning. I still have a really bad headache, but I hope that will be gone by the morning. I have a crafty day waiting for me! I can’t be sick and miss that!

Today’s lesson? Don’t skip the Sudafed. You could really regret it.

By the way, while both movies were REALLY good, I liked Uptown Girls more than I liked The Prince & Me, which really surprised me. Julia Stiles rocks, and the guy that played the prince was fabulous, but overall, Uptown Girls won. Laughter, comedy, drama, tears – and a choreographed dance scene. Like Kymberlie said the other day, you can never go wrong with a choreographed dance scene!

Wrong Way…

Being sick just days before your birthday really sucks. In the past, I’ve normally made plans to get together with friends for dinner, and it’s been the perfect birthday celebration. Heck, over a month ago, I was talking with some of the girls about a birthday tiara happy hour. But this past week, I’m realizing that none of it is going to happen. (In part because I haven’t planned anything – sort of a key point in the process.)

I should add that I have made plans to go out for dinner with Mike, Jason and my parents on Sunday, and I’m totally psyched about that. So I’m not having a pitty party or anything of the sort. It’s just … well, I feel horrid.

Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling so much better than I have all week. Energized, refreshed, and only slightly congested. I was excited about the possibility of making plans for dinner tonight. Maybe even going to a movie. Jason had two different doctor appointments, so we spent most of the day at those, and inbetween I did some grocery shopping. All-in-all, a pretty good day.

But last night I heard it. The distinctive crackling frog in my throat that means I will lose my voice. I knew it was coming, it happens almost every time that I’m sick. Back in May, I was without a voice for the better part of a week, right in the midst of wedding planning. It was not a good thing. No voice for my birthday? Ugh.

This morning, I woke up sooooo congested. I can barely breath, and the sinus pressure all over my head is intense. I have a burning feeling in my throat. I am coughing and sneezing constantly. I think I’ve gone through half a box of Kleenex already, and I’ve only been up an hour and a half. Miserable. And when I took Jason to the pediatrician yesterday for his eyes, he told me that if I didn’t continue to improve, I should go see the doctor. That’s hanging over me right now, because I’m too icky feeling to drive all the way over to the doctor’s office. Blech.

This is all going the wrong way. I’m supposed to be getting better – my birthday is on Monday! I was sick half of last weekend, this should be gone by now!

I’m going to go pout in my room now, while I curl up in bed with a good book (Dragonfly in Amber) and rest. I wonder if there is any chicken soup in the pantry…

(One positive note: Ivan is not hear beating down on us with rain. It is cloudy, and it will probably rain later today, but it’s not as bad as I feared. Hopefully, that won’t change.)

One of Those Days…

I think Jason has my cold now. However, instead of being congested, he has eye boogers. Seriously. Itchy, watery eyes. He also says he has a scratchy throat. We have an appointment for him today with a different doctor (not related to this), so now I’m trying to work in to see his pediatrician around the other appointment while keeping him from missing as little school as possible.

Although now that I say that, I guess if he’s sick he shouldn’t be up there giving the cootie-love to all the other kids, should he?

I hope he doesn’t get the full blown crud though – I’m soooooo tired of this. It’s funny, I feel more motivated to do things then I have in weeks, and yet I just feel weary and drained, and doing things takes a lot of effort. On top of it all, I just want someone to poke my sinuses with a pin and make them pop or something – the pressure! Ugh. Then there is the drainage cough – I sound like I am going to bring up a lung when that starts. Fortunately, it’s rare – but it still hurts.

I really seriously hope he doesn’t have the same thing. How wrong is it for me to secretly hope he has pink-eye? (But they are not red at all.) Hmmm…

Faster Free iPods…

While poking around the FreeiPods.com site, checking on the status of my order (still pending), I discovered that they are now offering another option for those that have selected the 20 GB iPod – you can choose to receive the new HP 20 GB iPod if it is available. They said that these will possibly ship faster, so you may get yours sooner. I switched mine today, so now I’ll just wait and see what happens.

If you want to make the switch too, go to the “check status” page, select your order number, and there will be an icon available to allow you to switch the iPod.

What’s In A Name?

With all of the talk of hurricanes this year, I know I’ve had a few conversations with people about how hurricanes are named. This site has a really good explanation of how it all works. There are six lists in rotation, and they are reused every six years. “The only time a new name is added is if a hurricane is very deadly or costly. Then the name is retired and a new name is chosen.” I wonder if Charley, Francis or Ivan will be retired now? [via Just Jill]
