It is All a Matter of Perspective…

I logged in to WordPress to write a post, and then I saw the number. This blog has 29,330 comments. 670 comments shy of 30,000 comments. Real comments, not counting the spam ones Akismet has caught.

Whoa.

Granted, it has been around since 2000, but there have been a few starts & stops along the way. Just 670 away. 670 seems like a huge number, but then you look at it in the context of 30,000, and it becomes pretty small. I should do something special when I reach that mark, don’t you think? What should I do? Give me some ideas – lets have some fun with this!

Meanwhile, sorry for the silence. I’m wrapping up SEO & Better Blogging Site Reviews, and helping with a ShootQ set-up. Meanwhile, Mike & I did a pretty big blog move for Tasra of Tasra365 (I know the new site’s name, but I can’t share!), although to be honest Mike did most of the heavy lifting on that. It involved a WP migration along with a TypePad export & migration. The TypePad one was a bit tricky, as an export through their system doesn’t bring over all the image files. Mike sorted that all out though, and the new site looks fabulous with the tweaks Tasra has made! Now that we’ve worked out all the kinks on TypePad to WordPress migrations, we’re ready to help others with theirs as well! Sound like something you need? Let me know!

On the photography front, I have a lot of 2009 weddings, engagement sessions, and more to blog about over on the wedding photography site. Later this week, I’m going to start with the recaps. It has been an AMAZING year, and I can’t wait to share! The year isn’t over though — I have two more boudoir sessions and two more weddings, with one of the weddings being on New Year’s Eve!

I always wonder if people think the silence means I’m not doing anything — when, in fact, it usually means the opposite! It feels like 2009 has just blown right past. I can’t believe it is almost over!

Leave me a comment – it would be kind of awesome to wrap up 2009 by hitting that 30,000 mark!

The Big Four-Ooooh…

Yes, you read that right. I turned 40 yesterday. At least that is what the math works out to, because I don’t personally believe it. I still feel about 27, or maybe 32. Definitely not 40. Or not what I thought 40 would feel like – although I did go to the orthopedic last week and discover that I possibly have a torn meniscus in my knee, which is why it feels all creaky and weird. Then there is the whole pulled hamstring thing (which I did at the same time I hurt my knee) so I look a little like I have a limp right now. Maybe I look 40, but I sure don’t feel it.

I was thinking about this post yesterday, thinking about how much my life has changed in the past 10 years. It is incredible to say the least.

To sum it up, back on September 27, 1999:
– Jason was only 7 years old.
– I lived in an apartment a few miles from where we live now.
– I was no longer working at Fulbright & Jaworski by a few weeks.
– I was making soap full time for a living. Yes. Soap.
– I was also working on building a great friendship with Anne-Marie, the owner of BrambleBerry, and I later helped her develop her site.
– I was already online for a few years, and knew how to code HTML by hand. I rock it old school.
– I was in a relationship with someone who never could commit, and I still thought it might work out although deep down I probably knew better.
– I didn’t know all of the hundreds of people I know now that make my life so amazing.
– I loved to take photographs, but didn’t know I could make a living doing it.
– Instead of having coffee with my friends like I did this year, 10 years ago I was having the best party ever at the Pink Palace in Melbourne.

In the 10 years that have passed – my 30s – I have worked for two web design companies and another law firm. I lost a job in the dot com bust of 2001, but had another one within 2 weeks. I owned my own blog hosting company, which I eventually sold for a profit. I’ve been told that makes me a dot com success story.

I started this blog in early September, 2000. I’ve met zillions of people thanks to my blog – seriously too many to name here – who have all blessed and enriched my life in countless ways. The best one, of course, was Mike, who I married in 2004. (Props to Ann for nudging me to meet him when he got back to Houston.) People have come into my life and stayed, and others have passed through – but I feel like all of them have made some sort of difference.

Jason has made it through elementary school, junior high, and is now in his senior year of high school. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m incredibly proud of him – he really is the most amazing son.

And after all those jobs, I’m doing what I love the most for work – taking photographs of amazing, beautiful clients at such an important time in their lives as they get married, graduate from high school, have a baby, or whatever the occasion may be. People even give me gifts or advice on from their lives, like the couple who was having a baby told me to get My Babies Planet Baby Gear if I were to ever have a kid. Working with Elaine & Brittany has been the best. On top of that, I get to stay true to my geek roots, writing here and helping people out with their blogs and SEO. I get to travel for both jobs. I am most grateful to Jason & Mike, along with my parents, for their tireless support.

Thank you again to everyone for their warm birthday wishes on Twitter and Facebook, and a special thanks to those of you that joined us on Friday night for my birthday party to kick off my birthday weekend, and to my family for wrapping it up with a fantastic brunch, Euchre, and a delicious dinner at Vic & Anthony’s last night.

I would have written this yesterday, on my 40th, but spending time with family was much more important. I decided it could be a day late.

I am blessed. I am blessed indeed. My 30s were AMAZING. I am a bit stunned when I think of what all has changed in the past 10 years. I can only hope my 40s go as well! Thank you, thank you, thank you for being a part of it all!

Can’t Touch This!

Oh, that just cracks me up! The guy wearing the shirt & tie! Oh, it is excellent!

Blogging update: I’ve posted daily for June with the exception of two days over at the wedding & boudoir photography blog — one day, I had been out running errands all day, and I fell asleep at 10pm and woke up after 1am – so I had missed it and just let it go. Then last weekend I had a 4 day Indian wedding, and the day of the Mendhi ceremony there just no way I could make it happen. Otherwise, daily! Yeah!!! If you haven’t been reading, please head on over there – and be sure to leave a comment!

I’m Famous on the Internet…

I’ve joked about being famous on the Internet for years now, and I’ve known many internet celebrities over time thanks to blogging. But when I took up photography full time, I thought I was leaving my “geek life” behind. It made me sort of sad.

Then, as time went on, my internet geek life and my photographer life started to overlap again. Only logical – there are some things that are so much a part of you you just can’t give them up. I started blogging on PhotoLoveCat last fall, which was a HUGE honor for me. I love giving back to the community what I can, and it was a blast getting to have my geek life (Twitter, blogging, facebook, etc.) to be a part of my photography life.

I was still caught off guard when Ron Dawson asked me to be on his podcast, F-Stop Beyond. I’ve listened to the show for ages, but honestly never expected to be a guest. I’ve had a podcast before, but I was still super nervous when we started the show – not because of the podcast, but dude! It is Ron Dawson! zOMG! (Yeah, I know. You’re rolling your eyes at me right now. Laugh. It is ok.)

As of today, you can now hear me talk about how I feel about things like Web 2.0 and how it all relates to photography. The world? It is changing. I’m looking forward to the ride! Listen to the show here, or subscribe to it in iTunes. And try not to mock me too much for my secret about Star Wars, ok?

June Daily!

My friend Laura has recently challenged herself to blog daily, so I decided to join her on it – my challenge for the month of June is to blog once a day. Now that it is June 1st, I’m trying to work out if it will be once a day at the wedding & boudoir photography blog, or once a day at WhollyMatrimony! and here as well.

Hmmm…

I used to write 4-5 blog posts a day, so I think I could do it. Matter of fact, the photo blog posts are the most time consuming, because I have to choose photos to put up on the site.

Today was Kelly’s first full time day of self-employment, so we agreed while at the Fast Track Photographer workshop that we would celebrate today – we went for brunch with Brittany and Kelly’s sister Kristan, and then afterwards we dropped Kristan off at home and went to Tomball to get a pedicure. We ended up making a trip through Hobby Lobby as well, since it was right there and I needed some crafty things for my new marketing materials I’m creating.

Of course, playing part of the day away was great — but now I’m going to be editing things tonight! And writing blog posts too, it seems. What did I get myself into?

Keep me in line by inspiring me with comments! Who knows, maybe this will be the kick in the pants that BigPinkCookie needs to come back to life? That would be excellent!
