Sydney & Chris – Married!

Sydney & Chris's Wedding

My dear friend Sydney came back to Texas to marry Chris, and Elaine & I had the honor of photographing their wedding for them. It was an incredible, wonderful day. I gushed a lot more about it over on the wedding blog, but I couldn’t let it pass without posting here too.

I first met Syd right before SXSWi 2003. Well, to be accurate, we actually met on a street corner in Austin – she recognized me from this blog and stopped Mike & me as we walked to the convention center. I’ve always known she is an incredible woman – and when we met Chris last summer while on vacation in Seattle, I knew he was perfect for her. I know they will have a fabulous life together – and I’ll be reading all about it on her blog, Twitter, Flickr, and any where else that I can go to keep up with her adventures!

What a Beautiful Way to Start the Day…

My friend Sarah posted a link to this video on Twitter yesterday, and I finally listened to it. Taylor Swift’s Love Story meets Coldplay’s Viva La Vida by Jon Schmidt – it is *gorgeous*. Check it out. Wonderful!

(Although Mike & I think they cheat in the middle with some cymbals overlaid on the track, but whatever – it is still awesome.)

Mike told me he could learn how to play it for me on the piano. Crap. I think that means I have to learn how to play the cello.

Stamped Logo Choices…

I’m at a crossroads in a decision, and the indecisive part of me can’t decide. I recently worked with Sara of Sadie Olive on redesigning the blog header for Christine Tremoulet. I love it. I’m thrilled with it. It coordinates with my studio, and makes it all feel so tied together. Thing is, we did a “stamped” effect on the logo (which I adore), and I’m trying to figure out if I should carry that effect over to my actual sign that I’m having made for the studio.

Stamped

It is either that or go with my logo “as is” instead:
The Logo

The logo colors would stay the same — I’m just trying to decide if I want it to have that slight texture effect.

Feedback? Thoughts? Ideas? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp…

Edited: I changed out the photo here because I realized it was confusing people. The sign that I plan to have made will be a light cream color, and will have the logo in blue/black on it. Just like the official logo above. I’m just trying to decide if I want the really crisp lines, or for it to have a more “textured” effect like the black logo on burlap above it.

The sign won’t be black lettering, it will be blue & black. It is the effect, how it looks like it is stamped, that I was asking about.

Everyone is Beautiful…

As women, we’ve all become too conditioned to not see ourselves as beautiful, and it is a sad thing. All of us – every single one – has a wealth of beauty. Most of us have just taught ourselves to ignore it and only pick on our own faults.

I have discovered an amazing power when I do boudoir photography sessions. I can make women see their true beauty. Almost every woman starts the session nervous, worried about her own personal flaws. By the end, after a lot of laughter and silliness (because every session is better with laughter!), every single client has told me how empowered she feels. How beautiful she feels. How excited she is about the previews I’ve shown her on the camera.

Many of my clients (but not all!) have done sessions originally as a gift for someone else. In the end, they all take away a gift for themselves too.

I think this would happen outside of boudoir sessions as well – I’ve been trying to encourage women to come in for an empowering portrait session even if they don’t want a boudoir session. Something to celebrate their beauty. Something to make them feel strong.

We are all way too hard on ourselves. Everyone IS beautiful.

Thank you to Katherine Center for the link to the video and the inspiration to write the post. I look forward to reading your book!

What do you find beautiful about yourself? (Hard question, isn’t it? It shouldn’t be that way.)

I Missed the White, and I’m Feeling the Love…

I missed the plain, simple white design of fabulousness by Derek Powazek. So I switched back. The other one was pretty and colorful, but this one just feels like a better gathering of all my web stuff in one place.

I’m going back to blogging here when I post photos on the wedding photography and the boudoir photography site as well.

Speaking of changes … have you seen Proposal 2.0? All about the schmoopy love, The Boy is proposing online to MommiePie. I discovered all of it thanks to The Bloggess.

Wait! Wait! Breaking news! In the time it took me to start writing this post, MommiePie *found* the proposal. Her response?

OH. MY. GOD.

I really should be leaving some hugely profound comment here, knowing this post will be recorded and kept forever, but all I can come up with is …

YES.

YES.

YES!!!

If I could get the letters any bigger I would! If there were audio, you’d hear me laughing.
If there were video, you’d see me smiling from ear to ear.

I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU Dave.

Yep. Soulmate.

Awwwwww…

I was going to link to what I posted when Mike & I got engaged — but I can’t find it online! I can’t believe I didn’t actually blog about it. I’m stunned! He took me back to Kavah Kane’s, where we first met thanks to an H-Town Blogs event that he organized, which I cancelled everything else to go to because Pixeldiva Ann had been asking me for at least a year while he lived in London and came back to Houston to visit if I had actually met him yet. (That might be the longest run-on sentence ever.) Anyways … he took me back to the place where we met on New Year’s Eve, after coordinating it all with Jason while I was at work that day. He got down on one knee, and said words I don’t remember but were really sweet and had to do with spending our lives together. I said yes. The rest is history!

Ah, sweet love…
