I’m participating in Patti’s Project #1 – PhotoDay. One photo, every hour. I’ve already taken my first two, and will start uploading later today. You can keep up with my day in my Photoday gallery (coming soon!)

Confession…
Regarding my last post: the reason I was telling Doug that they were renewing their vows was because I had also found a box of the blank thank you notes left over from my wedding. The pretty white cards which matched the invitations and said “Sgt. & Mrs…” on the front of them. Being Pure Evil ™ as I am – I asked Doug if my ex-husband’s rank had gone up since he’s now an E-8 or so – he was an E-5 (therefore a Sgt.) when we got married. I wanted to know if I should write Wife #3 and offer to send them to her … you know, I hate to see things go to waste.
I would never have sent them … but it still amused me to consider it.
Heading for the Trash…
The other day I got an e-mail from my ex-husband’s wife #3. (I was #1, back when I was 21 and he was 24.) For some bizarre reason, I think she’s convinced I want him back. This is based on her own comments to me last fall when I attempted to contact him after September 11th to see if he had been deployed – he’s still in the Army, and I was concerned. No point in going over all that again, because it was never the case – care & concern doesn’t mean you want someone back. We separated at the end of 1991. We were divorced in 1993. 10 years have passed. And I never once wanted to get back together with him – even though he is a wonderful guy. But I’m babbling now. She selected me as the first recipient of the e-mail, and inside she had included 4 or 5 studio portraits of them – they renewed their wedding vows today. I guess they didn’t have a big wedding last year, since it was pretty whirlwind after finding out that she was pregnant. So for their one year anniversary they renewed their vows. I was talking to Chelsey’s boyfriend, Doug, last night and he said, “Why are they renewing their vows? Did they forget them?” That cracked me up. But then I realized – maybe that’s the trick to make his marriages last!
None of this really has much of anything to do with the original point of this post. In doing a bunch of housework last night I came across a box of stuff. Going through the box, I discovered it had most of the cards we had received when we got married back in 1990. Tonight they are going in to the trash. If I come across one from my Grandma S. or Grandpa & Grandma Z., those might be saved. All the rest are heading for the trash. Seems the fitting thing to do as he & wife #3 renew their vows. She may not believe it, but I truly and sincerely wish them nothing but the very best.
More on Photography…
Another good read – Basic Shutter Speed, Aperture and Depth of Field Underwater. The article was written with underwater photography in mind, but the information is sound even when you are on dry land. A few weeks ago, when I wanted to dust off the Minolta SLR to take some pictures, I ended up writing to Rannie for advice – I had forgotten how to use the f-stops to manipulate the depth of field within a photograph. Thanks to his help, I remember now that smaller numbers equal a larger opening, which in turn effects the depth of field. So, for example, an f-stop of 8 is a larger opening then an f-stop of 16. Huh? Well, just think of it this way – the f-stops translate to 1/8 and 1/16 in fractions – and 1/8 is larger then 1/16. See? Pretty cool.
Another cool thing I learned tonight? If I actually read the manual for my camera, I’d learn a lot of cool tricks! It seems I have macro settings and stuff like that – things I’ve never used … because I didn’t know how to do it. Oops. So now I’m off to finally read the manual!
A Moment…
Ever had one of those moments where you have an idea? (Yeah, I don’t have those often. Hahaha…) Then, while thinking about the idea you realize it’s a damn good idea? Then you think of the perfect domain name for your idea? And you just have to have it? Then you get even more excited about your idea, and you find a whole new burst of energy?
Yeah, it’s a good feeling. And I’ve had one of those moments. As soon as I clear some of the current tasks off of my plate, I’ll get started on it. More to come … for now, I’m going to daydream about the idea while I work.
