Harlot Time!

I have knit recently. I still haven’t taken photos of my knitting. Housework took priority on Sunday when I was going to finally do it.

The Yarn Harlot comes to Twisted Yarns in Spring, Texas on Tuesday, September 18th! If you’re interested in joining us, there will be a tailgating party in the parking lot beforehand from 4-6pm. Bring your own snacks, drinks, a chair, and of course — your knitting!

Spinning!

Swirling, twirling, it is always a bit of a whirlwind when Mike travels for work. I’m about to take the rest of the morning off from the computer and just stop and knit for awhile, but first I had to test out the new design over at Wedding Photographer blog! I wanted to be able to use wider, larger photos there, and I finally can! Yeah!!!

I promise, next post? Knitting. All about the knitting. I need to take a photography break for a few hours! I told Mike last night that it was driving me crazy yesterday – I wanted to post about something exciting that wasn’t photography related – and realized I had nothing else to talk about!

Oh, I could talk about how I get the daily countdown from Jason at least 3 times a day on how many days are left until the launch of Halo 3. You know it comes out on September 25th, right? That day can not come soon enough! As I took him to school this morning, he told me he feels a cold coming on, and he has a feeling he will be sick from September 25th to 28th. (NOT on my watch!) Then he asked me if I thought September 25th was going to be a national holiday. Because, you know, it should be … just for Halo 3. *rolling my eyes*

We’ll Call It Market Research…

Wedding photography packages. They have their pros and cons, and one size fits all never really fits anyone. Originally, I didn’t want to offer packages, but when the parents are paying for the wedding it makes a nice way for them to purchase an album for the bride & groom, pay for a portion of their prints, and so forth. But I still don’t like packages. I’m realizing over time – and as I look back at why I hired my own wedding photographer – that people don’t book their photographer based on why you think they book them.

For example, when Mike & I got engaged, the plan was to take Rannie up on his offer to shoot our wedding. Then, about 2 months before the big day, I went to the Bridal Symposium. It was there that I saw a flush mount wedding album for the first time. I had to have the album. HAD TO HAVE IT. Then, not only did we book him, but we booked one of his middle packages to cover photographing the whole day (the album was still an add-on to the package). I kept telling Mike that when it was all said & done, the lights were out and the guests had gone home, all we had left were our photographs. He knew how important they were to me, and we made them one of the bigger items in our budget.

The irony? We still don’t have an album. I plan to fix that soon though, since we have a DVD of all the photographs and a print release for using them. One of the perks of now offering albums to my clients – I can get one for me!

Would you mind sharing with me? What is your story? If you’re married, why did you choose the person you went with? If you’re planning on getting married, what would make you choose one person over another?

Photoshop Designer Needed…

Nothing Better Than Blue!
From the wedding I photographed last weekend with Jennifer & Dennis of Silver Plate Photography in New Braunfels, Texas.

I need a photoshop designer, to design something very specific that I have in mind. I need a template with text at the bottom, and easy to change image at the top. Layers, of course, in a PSD file. The text part is what is tripping me up, actually. So, anyone here do freelance Photoshop work? Willing to discuss details and a price with me? I would need it within the next week or so – but it shouldn’t be that hard to do. I just don’t have the skillset for it myself!

I figured if I posted a pretty photo here, that would get your attention. 😉

Recovering…

A quick summary of the past few days. It is all that I have energy for.

– Friday, Katy Blogless & I celebrated “Yeah! The kids are back in school!” Friday, and went to Twisted Yarns to sit & knit. As an added bonus, there was a SALE and they had received some Mountain Colors 4/8ths wool in the color that I fell in love with last year and wanted to make a sweater with. Last year, they didn’t have enough for a sweater – I don’t think they had enough even for a scarf – and it turns out that it takes months for them to get new stock from them. So as soon as I saw it was there, I had to snatch it up. There is another sweater in my future.

– Saturday morning, The Tara ™ called, and said she was thinking of coming to Houston. I talked her into it, and she is now here. Yeah! De-catting the house quickly happened so that her allergies wouldn’t go too haywire.

– Saturday at 5pm, the fall wedding season kicked off! I left The Tara ™, Mike & Jason and went to shoot an awesome wedding. It was so fabulous, but I’ll leave all those details for a post of its own. I got home close to 2am. It was a good, long night!

– Today, slept in later than I had planned and now The Tara ™ and I are off to go see a movie!

I need to download 14GB of memory cards, and then there will be lots of photos to share. Whee!
