Jonathan Coulton – In Houston!

Squeeee! Jonathan Coulton will be in Houston on September 20th at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck. So awesome of him to come to Houston a week before my birthday as a special treat just for me! (ok, FINE. I know he isn’t coming just for me. But it is a week before my birthday, so I can pretend.)

He’ll be in Austin and Dallas too, along with a long list of other places. Check out the tour dates if you’re interested. While you’re on his site, be sure to listen to the Ikea song and the BEST VERSION EVER of Baby Got Back. Seriously. Even if you hate the song, you must check out his cover of it. It is AWESOME!

So, who wants to go with us???

I’ve Been Shot!

Elaine Shot Me
Photo of me, taken by Elaine

A few weeks ago, Staci posted photos of her new haircut. I was still in Germany at the time, and immediately left her a comment asking who did her hair. She wrote me back right away (she is awesome like that) and sent me all of his contact info. I called him as soon as we got home, booked an appointment, and yesterday was the big day. We took inches off of my hair. It was interesting – he pointed out that I didn’t want a Pob, but rather I wanted a haircut all my own. He listened to what I wanted done with the color and added fine, blended low-lights to my hair. He worked with the shape, the style, and my hair to get to the look that he thought would be best on me. I am still getting used to it – it still feels weird being so much shorter, but I went in wanting a *style* and not just a haircut, and I definitely got what I wanted. I’m quite happy with it.

You know what was really cool about the whole thing? I had told him when we were first doing our consult that I don’t do futzing with my hair. Blowdry, go. So when he finished cutting it, he styled it without the fancy roundbrush that no one can ever do at home. He used his hands only, showed me exactly how much of every product he was using, how to apply it, how to work the hair as I dry it, how to get it 90% dry (where he had me feel the hair so I would know exactly how dry he meant) and how to use the round brush to finish it. I left there knowing that I should be able to do everything he did, and I should be able to have my hair dry in under 10 minutes. This made me add to his tip. Seriously, it was that worth it to me.

I’m going to the Rockstar Photography workshop at the end of October, and Corey McNabb asked for headshots of the attendees. Elaine took this photograph of me last night, after we were out and about at a pre-opening party for her job. I love her fabulous RED wall in her office, and it was the perfect look for this shot – exactly what I wanted!

Thanks again for shooting me, Elaine! It is FANTASTIC!

Tell Me What You Think…

While the blog is all about me (as in writing what I want to write), it is also all about you. I’m back AGAIN to the same debate I always have … keep everything here in one place, or divide it up? I went through this when I set up the Pointy Sticks site, and again when I set up Fresh Photography, and now I’m back there again! Augh!

I’ve got knitting to write about, photos to share, things relating to Houston and Destination wedding photography, prints for sale … oh, the list goes on and on! tumblr is nice because I can pull all the RSS feeds into one place, but it isn’t all *here*. I keep coming back to wanting it all here, I guess. But that leads to the question of if you want it all here.

So, do I keep cross-posting? Or do you prefer to be able to pick & choose which parts of my online presence you follow along with? I know ultimately it is up to me, but I still want the feedback from you. It is all about yooooooouuuuuuu…

Tumbld.

I’m finally adding things over at my tumblr account – christine.tumblr.com. I’ve added all of my feeds for all of my blogs, plus Flickr, plus everything else there. An easy way to follow “all of me” in one place. Feel free to follow along.

Just a Note…

We’re home. We’re recovering from the easier end of jet lag, but we’re still a bit loopy from it.

I have many, many gigabytes of photos. Somewhere over 20gb, so a lot of photos. (I would guess over 1500, but I haven’t really counted.) I have stories to share. But first, I’m catching up on the wedding photography stuff, and housework. Then I will get to play some tomorrow and over the next few weeks. Today was all about recovery and getting some work out of the way.

One week and one day ago today, I was in Munich, Germany. We had dinner with Elemmaciltur, and it was cold enough outside that I was wearing a coat and jeans. It got down to about 50 degrees that night. Today? Freakin’ Heat Index Warning in Houston with a “feels like” temperature of 105. And Mike wondered why I wanted to change my plane ticket’s return date and stay in Germany longer?

Jason just informed me that Houston sucks because it is hot *and* muggy. I have to say, I agree with him.

I think it is time I remember the memories by editing photos. I don’t think that will help with the heat though. Thank goodness for air conditioning…
