Various Articles, Job Update

Understanding Your Metabolism, IT Salaries Take a Hit, and Seven Principles of Successful Managers Put that one in here in case it is one of the management at my old company reading this daily – figure they could read during their down time instead of this. A good quote from there, “Show Consistent Kindness – Good managers don’t throw their weight around or rely on intimidation to get results.” What a concept! They really need to read that whole article. I see the old company’s entry in my log file almost daily & I feel like a police officer at an accident scene … “Move along people, there’s nothing to see here! Move along!” Wanted to give them something to see – there is a link now just for them. (It is also a good article for any employee!)

On that note – love the new job. Love it. A very positive work environment on every level, from the CEO down to the summer intern who set up my PC. Quiet work environment. It is emphasized in the employee manual that it is important that we all “play nice” – say hi to each other, be courteous. No screensavers of naked women or pictures of Victoria Secret models. Conservative casual dress among the developers – I would not have to worry about walking a client through the design team or IT team room. No funky cardboard cut-outs all over of Star Wars characters or Austin Powers. I hop out of bed in the morning & look forward to coming to work. I forgot a long time ago what that felt like! Love it, love it, love it.

The New Job!

Today was the first day of my new job – and I love it! Ok, ok, it’s just the first day. But still. I am glad to be back to work. I am *thankful* to have found a job doing exactly what I love – working with clients and selling websites. Writing proposals. I miss my old co-workers. I know that I have a lot to learn ahead of me – learning their procedures, their way of doing things. I love how well documented they have everything – a large Visio flow chart of how the sales process works, who all *has* to be involved, who has to sign off on things, and so forth. Intranet documentation process set up from the initial contact on through the client signing and then continuing once the work is in progress. So far, so good. Made it through Monday! I know that first impressions can be different than reality – but I have a very good vibe. And we all know – the vibe is often right on target.

Yes, last night’s post was at 2 am. I was full of nervous energy and could not sleep. Just couldn’t resist posting an update while I was sort of awake. I watched the episode of Sex in the City from last night on Tivo tonight – it was good. Samantha was toned down this episode, thank goodness. Now I am off to watch/Tivo tonight’s Biography on Robert Reed (aka Mr. Mike Brady). I love the Brady Bunch. Today’s trivia tidbit: the first episode of the Brady Bunch aired on September 26, 1969 – the night before I was born. I think I have seen every episode made. Pork choooops and applesauce! (That always makes me laugh!)

My Own TV Land

Just some chatter on the latest shows I have watched…

Sex In the City – last week’s season premiere episodes – funny. Carrie’s birthday experience was a riot. I am getting a little tired of Samantha’s too strong sex attitude. Enough. I guess they call it *Sex* in the City for a reason though.

Queer as Folk – Laura told me that the season finale was on tonight – thank goodness, otherwise I would have missed it. I *loved* it. Lots of surprises around every corner. As an added treat – they said at the end that there are two more episodes next week! And the teasers for them looked *good*.

The Replacements – Good humor for a night home alone. Even made me get misty eyed at one point. I love the cheerleaders early dance routines – they have some *very* special numbers.

Run Lola Run – Kymberlie had told me about this moving awhile back. Glad she did. Good treat – very interesting. I recorded it on the Tivo just in case I feel asleep while watching it. Glad I did – easier to read the subtitles at your own pace.

Making the Band was not on on Friday – the TV station showed news coverage all night instead. I was *so* mad! I wanted to see the band!

Storm Scene around town & here at home

Truck picking up flood victims with no way out.Flood waters on I-10Oops.Trying to get through.

Pictures I found online of the flood.

My Dad stopped by on his way home and looked at the water in my car. He said, “Oh, it’s not that bad – just dab it out with some paper towels.” Then I moved my passenger seat. It is full underneath, almost to the bottom of the seat. It was higher this morning – I wonder if the seat itself is damaged. There is no way a roll of paper towels or an old beach towel is getting all that water out, I need to contact the professionals from https://www.emergencyhomesolutionsoc.com/water/damage/aliso-viejo/ to help me out with this. Let’s see… I get to hear from the adjuster on Monday. Then it will probably be at least a week before they get to work on the car considering all the flooded cars in Houston right now. Yum, that will smell really good by then! My friends home is completely flooded and needs full remodeling, its going to be expensive to get all the supplies like heavy duty surface protection.

Worth the Matinee Ticket Price

I forgot to mention that I went to see “Pearl Harbor” on Thursday night. It was ok. Incredible cinematography, the bombing of Pearl Harbor was recreated very well along with the other air scenes of the dog-fights. On the other hand there were things that were pretty hokey about the movie and at one point I was grumbling at the woman that was part of the love triangle because there she was making some lame decisions. It had some far-fetched moments. It is a bit too gushy at times (and I like good gush.) You can read the reviews at rottentomatoes.com. It was worth the matinee ticket price and 3 hours of time, and now I can tell Laura what the outcome was if she doesn’t go back to see it.
