Brooke’s Bridal Portraits!

Brooke's Bridal Portraits - Houston, Texas

I posted last night about Brooke’s Bridal Portrait session in October over on the wedding photography site. While I’m trying not to double post everything over here as well, it is important to note that with this wedding which took place on Saturday, we’ve now wrapped up the 2008 wedding season! Whoo hoo!

The total rundown of the year is below.

Rachael Ray – Today!

The Aisle

I’ve been posting about this over on the wedding photography site, but my Mom pointed out yesterday that I never posted about it over here — I might be on Rachael Ray today!

Back in September, two wedding venues in Houston decided to just close their doors. They left a lot of people stranded — such a mess! They basically took their money and ran, blaming it on Ike. I think that poor business practices were actually behind it all.

So on November 2, the Rachael Ray Show came to Houston to turn the nightmare into a dream for 40 Houston couples. They contacted me earlier in the week and asked if I would be willing to come and take photos for the couples. We didn’t photograph the ceremony itself, but did group photos and photos of the couples afterwards. It was such an honor to be able to help these couples out!

So if you can – watch Rachel Ray today. You might see me. Hopefully not in one of those weird photographer positions that I do to get the best light and angles! You can see more on the website here. (And I’m listed on the credits page.)

Slow Down…

This has been a whirlwind week. Oh, wait – who am I kidding? It has been a whirlwind month, quarter, year… all of it. I often have to stop myself and remind myself to just take it all in.

Last night, while waiting for photos to export from Lightroom (which is as exciting as watching paint dry), I realized I haven’t knit anything in at least two weeks. So I picked up my February Lady Sweater and made a few rounds on my sleeve. It felt good to just stop and knit.

Today, after I mail out some DVDs and finish uploading some photos, I’m going to do just that. I’m packing up the wool and heading over to Twisted Yarns. I’m going to force myself to just be in the moment for a few hours. Not racing ahead, thinking of everything else I need to do, but to just be.

Then I’ll come home, prep for tomorrow’s wedding (the daughter of the owner of Twisted Yarns is getting married!) and pack for my trip on Sunday. I’m going to Mexico, to a hacienda that our workshop is taking over. We’ll have the whole place to ourselves. The internet access is limited, so for several days I’ll be forced to just stop, and to take it all in.

I look forward to returning home refreshed, recharged, and I expect quite rejuvenated. I can’t begin to tell you how much I need it.

Hunker Down People, Hunker Down!

I’m so giddy while watching the news on KHOU for the election. This is going to be pretty scattered…

I giggle now every time I hear the phrase “Hunker down” thanks to the extreme overuse of it during Hurricane Ike. They just said on the news that people will be “hunkering down tonight, awaiting election results.” Uhm, no. I mean, I’ll be watching, but there will be NO hunkering down!

37% of all registered voters in Harris County voted in the early voting for this election. 37%!!! How awesome is that? It will be interesting to see how many people get out and vote across the nation this year.

Charles Kuffner will be on KHOU (channel 11) as one of the bloggers talking about the election. I’m so giddy about this! Charles is my go-to guy normally for political info – matter of fact, I’ve even called him in the past to get advice before voting for local candidates that I didn’t know as much about.

And really? You might want to just keep an eye on my Twitter stream because it seems that Twitter has eaten my blog. Eep. Sorry about that. I’m sure I’ll be posting over there through the night!
