Meme Me

I Know You Wished You Knew…

I wanted to write a post, but thanks to an icky earache due to bed bugs, (I used this

bed bug treatment cincinnati to fix the issue), I’m not up to being creative. Perfect excuse to borrow a meme from Julia if you ask me!

1. Do you like blue cheese?
Ew, ew, ew … NO.

2. Have you ever smoked cigarettes?
Socially in the 90s when I would go out with friends – I could make a pack of cigarettes last for a long time. I smoked in my own house once, and decided then that I didn’t want to go down that path. Completely stopped when I got pregnant with my son, and now am really allergic to cigarette smoke, the only thing I can tolerate is the V2 – e liquids from electronic cigarettes. I was thinking of buying one from slimsejuice.com.

3. Do you own a gun?
No. I’d rather shoot things with a camera.

4. What Kool Aid flavor was your favorite?
Was? How about is? I still like Cherry Kool-Aid, although now I prefer the sugar-free version.

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?
Nope.

6. What do you think of hot dogs?
Love hot dogs, try not to think about stories of how they are made. But I still love them.

7. Favorite Christmas movie?
Scrooged with Bill Murray, just like Julia.

8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Pepsi

9. Can you do push ups?
Hahahahaha … no. Wonky right shoulder, elbow & wrist would make that a bad idea.

My wedding ring. 🙂 Well, Treasure Jewelry has the best wholesale fashion bangles, http://www.treasurejewelry.com/.

11. Favorite hobby?
Knitting & photography, which should be obvious.

12. Do you have A.D.D.?
Yes, among other things. Tried meds for it once, but they did more harm than good.

13. Do you wear glasses/contacts?
Wear glasses most of the time, but I have contacts too.

14. Middle name?
Eliese

15. Name three thoughts at this exact moment?
One – this is only #15? And there are 37? Whoa. Two – Watching HGTV always makes me want to do house renovations, specially since I hear that Foam spray insulation doesn’t just reduce heat loss, but also increases weather-proofing and adds structural integrity, however’ I need to do some crawl space cleaning before thinking about insulation. Three – I need to stop goofing off online and finish proofing my wedding.

16. Name three drinks you drink regularly.
Pepsi, Diet 7-Up, Water

17. Current worry?
That my to-do list is physically impossible with its ongoing growth.

Yes, I knit them myself.

Jason, Michael. (Guess what Jason’s middle name is?)

32. What’s in your pocket right now?
Housepants don’t have pockets.

33. Last thing that made you laugh?
I don’t know. I laugh a lot. Last thing that made me laugh really, really hard was a scene in Gray’s Anatomy.

34. What vehicle do you drive?
2006 Honda CR-V.

35. Worst injury you ever had?
Various broken bones.

36. Do you love where you live?
Hmmm. Yes and no. Love our friends here. Love it in the fall when it gets cool. Love our house, but wish it was much closer to downtown. Would love to live somewhere with seasons, and a different “feel”. (I can’t describe it. I’ve tried.) So I am wishy-washy on this.

37. How many TVs do you have in your house?
Three that are frequently used, plus one that isn’t hooked up to anything.

Ok, now it is your turn! Let me know if you do it too!

I Always Knew…

I don’t talk about knitting often enough over here. I also don’t knit often enough. I’m working on that. It is one of my time-management goals right now. Put down the laptop and KNIT SOMETHING. Like the sleeves on my February Lady Sweater.

While reading knitting blogs last week, I discovered that Kay & Ann of the infamous Mason Dixon Knitting blog and awesome book authors would be hosting a reading and book signing at the Joseph Beth bookstore in Lexington, Kentucky. For those of you not in the know, Mike’s parents live in Lexington, Kentucky. And they like going to Joseph Beth. I have wanted the Mason Dixon books for some time – I especially want to make the cool cardigan out of Cracksilk, er, Kidsilk Haze from their new book. You see where I’m going here, right?

So I told Mike that a fantastic Christmas gift would be a signed copy of their book. He admitted that he wouldn’t remember me telling him (it was an awfully busy week for him) and asked that I email him about it with all the details. So I did.

Dearest Michael,

I’ve discovered that the wonderful duo of Kay & Ann, also known as the Mason-Dixon Knitting team, will be at Joseph-Beth in Lexington, KY on October 10, this Friday.

While knitting books make fabulous gifts, *SIGNED* knitting books are even better! I do not own their second book, “Outside the Lines”, and there are fabulous things I would love to make from it. Their first book is also wonderful and would be a great addition to my collection, but it is the second book I want the most.

Anyone sent to deal with the knitters at Joseph-Beth should probably be warned that HUNDREDS of knitters are likely to be there. Yes, hundreds. It will not be a normal book signing. They never are. Maybe J-B will take orders? Requests? I don’t know … but I would love a signed book. A signed book with a dedication is the best, but signed is good too. I’m easy to please.

This time, you might not want to wait to forward this email to anyone you might want to share it with. You should maybe do it today.

Love always,
Christine

(Uhm, about that last line? Yeah, I sent him some birthday present suggestions to pass on to my parents and his parents in early September, and he sort of forgot about them until Sept. 24 or so – just days before my birthday. Just in case you wondered.)

So Mike passed the email along, and my In-Laws, Gretchen & Charles went last Friday to see Kay & Ann. As you might notice from my note above, I was thinking that they don’t knit, and they probably wouldn’t want to sit through a reading by knitters. But the pull of awesomeness that all knitters seem to have is too strong to resist. They didn’t just phone it in, literally. Oh no, they went.

Gretchen put it best in her weekly email that she sent out. Wait — I know you might be thinking that I had suggested the books as a Christmas gift, but … well, you’ll see.

We received an “emergency” email from Michael. Two knitters (Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne) who are also authors of knitting books were coming to Joseph Beth Friday evening to give a presentation and inscribe/sign books. These two girls write the Mason Dixon Knitting books – and they are *golden* in the knitting world. He wanted us to get two of their books inscribed to Christine. So we went to JB Friday. Charles got us seats on the front row (one was being saved, but he asked about it and the girl saving it decided her friend wasn’t coming). So we listened to the presentation, which was delightful – these girls are entertaining in front of an audience as well as in writing. Then we got the books inscribed & signed. The girls were amused when we told them about the emergency phone call (we just said phone call because it was faster than explaining the email). We told them Christine lives in Houston and is our daughter-in-law and has a knitting blog (www.pointysticks.org). They said we are “awesome in-laws” and took our photo!!

Yes, yes — it is true. It seems that AWESOME In-Laws rank just below the hostess and cute babies. You can see a photo of mine over on this post. Heehee! So the secret was out as soon as I saw them on the blog — I knew they had gotten the books for me! But not only that — they sat on the front row! Sweet!

No knitting post would be complete without a photo, so I snagged this one from Ann & Kay. I hope they don’t mind. They took it, not me. Because, you know, I wasn’t there.

My In-Laws

Thank you, thank you again to Gretchen & Charles for doing this – the books arrived today, and I already spent a little quality time swooning over them! Love!

They Got a Brand New Dance…

It seems that not everyone has heard of the Cupid Shuffle. Every weekend at weddings, I squeal with glee when the DJ puts this song on — and lots of people don’t react at all. Of course, once they get out there and do it … then they get the awesomeness that is the Cupid Shuffle.

Oh, you may think I’m crazy, but I promise — it is awesome.

I’m considering adding to my contract that I must be allowed to dance to this. And YMCA, which I firmly believe should be played at every wedding. And maybe even the Cha Cha Slide.

Here we go! Down, down, do your dance… do your dance…

After the Storm…

The other morning our power went out. No real reason why – it wasn’t storming or anything. But after having no power for 2 weeks? Having it even go out for 30 minutes made me really nervous.

Silly? Yes. But I suspect I’ll feel that way for awhile.

Cleaning the Blog House…

See all those links over there on the sidebar? Neatly grouped into people I’ve met (Tasty Cookies), people I want to meet someday (Chewy Cookies), and knitters – because knitters are fabulous and deserve a category all their own? Well, I’m really weird about deleting links. Some of those sites I’ve had links going to for over 8 years. Whether I’ve met them in person or not, I consider them friends. So to remove them from the blogroll just feels wrong. They are the blogs that have helped me get through some low times in my life, and the people that have celebrated so many joys with me.

But I had to come to terms with the fact that some of them are just gone. No longer blogging. The links are dead. And there were others who are very important to me that needed to be added, because they weren’t there at all.

So I deleted links. I’m added in some new ones. I changed ones that I knew had moved. I’m nowhere near done, but I’m doing it in alphabet groups. While doing this and thinking about people that have influenced me, I’m realizing that I miss some aspects of my old blog. I’m going to go back to blogging about whatever is going on in my life. I don’t know when that stopped — but I want it back. I hope you’ll stay along for the ride.

Oh, and if you’re not listed on my blogroll but think I should be reading your site – leave a comment. I would love to add you to the list.
