The Cherry Cricket – Denver, Colorado…

Duffy's Cherry Cricket

Since we are talking about amazing food in Denver, I absolutely must mention The Cherry Cricket. I absolutely LOVE a good hamburger, and the Cherry Cricket? Some of the best burgers I’ve ever tasted! I make a point to try to go there every time I visit Denver. My friend & business coach Jeff Jochum tipped me off to them in 2010 on my first trip there for a workshop. I liked them so much, I went back the next day for another round!

Last October I went with Mike to Denver for one of his work business trips; while we were there I took him on this gorgeous fall day for his first Cherry Cricket experience. I’m sure it won’t be the last time we visit there!

I don’t know how they do it – words can’t even adequately explain the magic – but their burger and fries are phenomenal! The sweet potato fries were pretty stellar as well.

Bacon. IN the Pancakes. Brilliant!

Bacon. In the pancakes. GENIUS!

When I went to Denver last fall, Brooke Summer (a Denver boudoir photographer) and I dined at all sorts of fabulous places. One of my personal favorites? The Original Pancake House. We went to the one in the Denver Tech Center, and it was like a little slice of heaven.

Admittedly, I hadn’t had pancakes at that point in over 10 months since going gluten free. I love pancakes, but I chose when I first cut out gluten to not find “substitutes” for it because I also eat a very low-carb diet as well. Pancakes? Not going to happen. But that one day, I gave in. I ordered gluten free BACON pancakes. Yes, bacon IN the pancakes. Whoever came up with that idea was a freaking GENIUS! I love how bacon tastes with a little syrup on it, that maple flavor just makes it somehow better. So if you put bacon inside the pancakes, it is the best of all things combined!

These were a very, very rare indulgent treat. I didn’t eat that whole plate – there was no way I could have! Just a little bit was all the sugar I could handle, and I had an order of eggs on the side so I was sure to get my protein. There was just no way I could pass those pancakes up though, and I’d gladly order them again. I haven’t had pancakes since that trip. Matter of fact, anyone want to meet me in Denver and go out for some? Mmmm…

(Yes, we went to Snooze as well while I was in Denver, but I loved these Bacon Pancakes more.)

I Find This Shockingly Hard To Believe…

Glamour Magazine CoverI don’t think I can believe this magazine cover at ALL. “Men’s new sexual needs” — REALLY??? They have needs now that they haven’t had for the rest of the existence of mankind? Really?

I don’t know, maybe it is just me. I find that to be pushing the bounds of reality just a bit too far. Not that I’m expecting major breaking news from my Glamour magazines or anything like that, but still. Really?!?

As I go through the archives of photos from my iPhone over the years, it amuses me to see what I found to be photo worthy. This was one of those moments.

This Sums Up My Day…

30 Minute Parking

I feel like I’ve been going all day, and yet I feel like I’ve gotten nothing done. Coming off of being sick with first a sinus infection and then pneumonia for the better part of 3 weeks now, I’m not surprised. The wheeze seems to finally be gone, so it was the first day I felt up to getting work done around the house. Laundry, cleaning, just getting things put away. It felt good! However, every time I turned around, there was something else I wanted to be doing. I would get distracted, start reading vacuum & cleaning product reviews, online shopping for products to help me out with this or that task, it was endless.

I walked in to our bedroom and I hit that breaking point. Our bed is pretty high up, our dressers are tall and somewhat bulky, and everything is at almost the same height. One plane across the room. And the yellow? UGH. The room was painted yellow by the previous owner; they did a better job in the bedroom of painting over the sage green then in the bathroom, but there are still some spots. I’m just so tired of the yellow! I tried rearranging furniture to see if that would help, but it didn’t.

Fortunately, Mike & I rather quickly agreed on a color that we both like. It is a blue-gray color, and it is already on the wall of my studio so I have spent a lot of time with it and I love the color. So I see paint in our future. Plus getting some art up on the walls, maybe some shelves? Something to break up the feeling that everything is all on one level in there. It needs some variety!

Polka Dots on the Ground… IAH to YYC

Crop Circles

Flying from Houston to Calgary last year, I spotted these circles on the ground. Irrigation circles in otherwise arid fields, I’m assuming. I wonder if they look like circles when you are on the ground and pass them. Some things are best appreciated from the sky.
