The Fun is Finally Over!

For what seemed like forever, I felt like a walking medical book. One issue after another, and several of them were were clueless about the cause. One by one, thanks to doctors that I’m very happy with, we have knocked them out. The hand is doing better, and I made it through my “Aran Sweater from the top-down” class with Beth Brown-Reinsel on Tuesday without a hitch. Yeah! (I did ice my thumb down that night, just to be safe.)

The one issue we haven’t resolved though is what was causing the ongoing pain on my right side, just below my ribs. We ruled out gallbladder issues in December, which was the initial suspect. So today was my EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) and my Colonoscopy. The prep for those two tests is just tons of fun, let me tell you. Whew! Yesterday was fabulous between the liquid diet and the test prep. Ugh. But it went well, and I now know that I have a hiatal hernia and diverticulosis.

It is nice to finally know something.

I was just thinking yesterday that I felt almost silly going in for this test – ever since my hand surgery, my abdominal pains have been better. Of course, as soon as you think something like that, it starts hurting again. So now we know. My follow-up appointment is at the end of the month, so I’ll know more then. For now, thanks to the side-effects of the anesthesia, I’m going to go and take a nap.

I have photos from the scope, so maybe I’ll scan them later and post them. Of course, I don’t know what anything is yet – but it is still amusing to see what the inside of the stomach looks like. Yum…

Knit, Knit, Knit…

I didn’t do my knitting test the other day – instead, I got caught up in reading “A Breath of Snow and Ashes” (by Diana Gabaldon, the latest in the Outlander series) again. I’m really enjoying the book, and I’m up to p. 600 out of almost 1000. I hope to have it done before school starts.

I’m going to leave it behind for the afternoon though. First, I am going to work on Jenn’s baby blanket, which is so close to being done it has hurt to let it just wait during this whole hand ordeal. If I’m having a hard time with the large needles, I might have to set them aside to try the Crusoe socks from Knitty. I’ve got some Koigu calling my name, and I learned last fall that sometimes I am better off with smaller needles. Plus it is always nice to have socks on the needles – you never know when you might need a take-along project!

Now if I could just settle on a design for this site, while I work on creating one myself. Don’t be surprised if it looks different every day for awhile!

Cutting Edge Knitting…

I’ve decided to finally try listening to Podcasts. I tried before, as I drove to Austin for SxSW last year, but I just couldn’t get into them. I have problems with listening without something to look at – I can’t listen to sports, talk radio is hard for me to follow, and so forth. But I keep seeing mentions of the knitting podcasts, and well – I love anything that has to do with knitting these days! So I set up iTunes on the revamped laptop and Mike taught me how to subscribe to podcasts. Now I’m all set – I have subscriptions to KnitCast, Cast-On, Knitting News Cast and FiberCast. I can knit and listen and learn – all at once! Whee!

It’s All About the Inner Geek…

I’m setting up things on the laptop, getting Firefox plugins installed, going through my NewsGator online links, and embracing Digg. Somewhere in all of that, I found the ultimate geek test – Geeks Love Their Inner Geek.

I’m almost disappointed to learn that I am only a “Major Geek” with a score of 44.97014%. I can’t wait to see Mike’s score though, since I know he has read most of the books & authors mentioned and can spew even more random trivia than I can. Well, he can come up with more than anyone else I know actually. Bless his little geeky heart…

Update: Mike is an “Extreme Geek” with a score of 57.00197%. I think the fact that he hasn’t been a regular watcher of all of the Star Trek series hurt his score. That’s ok though, I’m still very proud of his geekiness.
