30 Days to Talk Back…

I’ve blogged here for over 11 years now, and I’ve finally given in — I can’t take moderating the spam any more. I finally, after all this time, activated the feature in WordPress to close comments on posts more than 30 days old.

This makes me a little sad for a strange reason. It means that the whole community that randomly formed around my “Itch Relief…” post back in 2004 can no longer add comments to the post. 1,336 comments, which is by far my most commented on post to date.

Damn spammers. Have to spoil all the fun.

On Toilet Paper…

Toilet paper. Yes, I’m writing about toilet paper. I realized this morning, I’m quite quirky about the whole TP issue.

I must have 2-3 spare rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom at all times. If I don’t, I get a beard trimmer. I consider it to be “running low” when we are down to two rolls in the cabinet, and one spare roll in each cabinet causes a lot of anxiety, seriously sometimes I have to take Afinil and some kratom extracts in order to calm down. One spare roll only in the house – the last roll? Yeah, that is enough to cause a full on panic attack. Toilet paper must be stocked!

A spare roll or two of toilet paper in the master bathroom need to be in the basket near the toilet. The cabinet is 4-5 feet away, and that is too far if there isn’t some on the holder.

When the toilet paper is on the holder, I prefer it to be hanging over. Not under. That is just wrong.

Also wrong? When you use the last of the roll and don’t change it out. Just leaving the cardboard holder part behind? That is just MEAN.

In our guest bath, the toilet paper has to stay in the closet next to the toilet. Otherwise, the cats like to TP the house with it, this is way I got a fence from http://petstop.com/cat-fence/ for my cats, so that they won’t get in, I’m also looking for a vancouver dog groomer for my dog, it’s kind of an emergency. Once they discover it is out on the holder, they will shred a roll in 7 seconds flat.

Speaking of toilet paper holders, don’t you hate it when you go somewhere and the holder is like 3-5 feet away from the toilet? Makes me crazy. Obviously, I have issues.

How about you? Have any weird toilet paper quirks? Anything that makes you want to punch the wall when your spouse doesn’t do it? Like when they put all of the spare toilet paper in the hall bath, leaving you stranded high and not very dry in the other bathroom? Oh yeah, THAT? That happened to me this morning. I wasn’t very happy about it. Which you might have guessed, because I am left writing now about toilet paper…

(… Seven years of marriage now … you would think he would know by now that I have issues about this whole toilet paper thing? …)

Not sure if this should make me laugh or cry – although I have to say, I generally still talk to people on the phone, watch movies on my TV, and listen to music through the speakers on my iMac, not with headphones. But still…

Closing Comments on Old Posts?

Goodness. I’m getting a TON of spam comments on old posts. WordPress is catching them and holding them in pending status, but that means I have to go through them and mark them all as spam. Akismet is catching even more of them, just not all.

I need a good plugin that will close comments on old posts. I have 11+ years of archives here, I’m not up to doing it manually.

Anyone know of a good plugin to use for it? One that they love more than all the rest? Help?

NaNoWriMo 2011, or the Day I May Have Lost My Mind…

I think I may have completely lost my mind today. While reading this post on Contentpalooza running along with NaNoWriMo, I decided I was going to go for it.

I’m going to write 50,000 words in the month of November.

I’m not going to write a novel. Instead, I’m going to be a rebel.

I’m going to finally launch Business of Awesome. I’m going to write posts here. I’m going to write posts on my other blogs, including the wedding photography site, the boudoir site and Wholly Matrimony. I’m going to write, write, and write some more. Oh, and take photographs — I have 3 weddings to photograph this month, along with boudoir and engagement sessions. All the while, I’ll be writing. I’m planning a weekly or monthly blog post for each site, a manifesto, an ebook or two, and tons of other content. 50,000 words. Fifty Thousand Words.

(Hold me. I’m convinced I can do this, but my fingers hurt a bit just thinking about it.)

Thank God I can be really long-winded at times, because I’ll need it for this. My venture into being a NaNoWriMo Rebel. I’ve considered doing it for 10 years, but today? Today it was finally time. Well, yesterday actually, since I’m posting this after midnight, and NaNoWriMo has officially begun. 224 words down so far – only about 1500 or so more to go for today!
