Wake up Call

Someone on the news was just saying, “It’s a wake-up call for our country…” Yes, you are so right. It’s a wake up call to stop convincing ourselves that we are immune. There has never been an attack, especially not of this magnitude, on American soil. Pearl Harbor was an act of war aimed primarily at battleships. This … this is more like what the rest of the world deals with constantly. Every other country has had war on their soil. I hope that our time has not come yet, but I am afraid it will come.

The world as most Americans knew it has definately changed. Our eyes have been opened.

Chain Reactions

I agree with what Keith has to say about our reaction to this tragedy. I don’t want to see a repeat of the Japanese Internment camps that we set up in the 1940’s. I have driven past one of those camps – what a horrid place. And taking other innocent civilian lives to retaliate for the lives we lost here seems so senseless when I think about it. It lowers us to their level. Going to war we risk losing more American lives. Maybe that is part of why it touches me – I married a sargeant in the Army a week before Iraq invaded Kuwait. I don’t want to see us involved in another war.

It’s so hard to watch the people on the news that are talking about the final phone calls that they received from their family members that were on the hijacked planes.

I keep trying to make myself do “normal” things, but it just doesn’t feel right. I know so many people have been saying that. I have left the TV off ever since I got home, but I finally gave in. I wanted to see the news. It’s hard to believe that on the planes alone we lost more people then we did in the Oklahoma City bombing. And who knows if we will ever have an accurate count of who was lost in New York. I still can’t believe it really happened. That’s why I turned the TV on … to see the faces of people effected by this. I have been reading all of the blogs – but those are words … I need faces. I have to put a face with the words. It is all so fragmented.

I want my life back. I don’t want to let these terrorist take that away from me. We’ll see what tomorrow holds…

After reading this…

After reading Michael Moore’s blog entry with his airport experiences … I honestly feel right now like I never want to fly again. Sick, and the sad thing is I know how true it is, I have seen the same thing.

Other reads from today, which I plan to read again in the future, hopefully under better circumstances: FiveFoot6, DJ Wudi, Out of Range, The Tin Man, and Laura Holder, Ctrl-Alt-Ego. Links found thanks to various blogs. Ev has set up a search page at blogger with so many more listed.

The Quote is a Hoax…

The Nostradamus prediction that is circulating around the web is a HOAX. You can read all about it at Snopes.com. “It originated with a student at Brock University in Canada in the 1990s, appearing on a web page essay on Nostradamus. That particular quatrain was offered by the page’s author, Neil Marshall, as a fabricated example to illustrate how easily an important-sounding prophecy can be crafted through the use of abstract imagery. He pointed out how the terms he used were so deliberately vague they could be interpreted to fit any number of cataclysmic events.” Don’t pass it on, even though it is very scary how close it is to reality.
