When I was let go (laid off, fired … whatever) I had no warning. I packed my things and left the same day. Today Chelsey’s boyfriend found out that he is going to be laid off from Compaq. Oh, but by the way … he has work through October 29 under an extreme deadline to get a project out so that they can make tons of money. Now, I guess it is great that he has the security of having work through October, but at the same time just how demotivating is that? Blah. I could not work under those conditions. I would rather just have the swift ax, done and over with – not the blade hanging over my head for 3 months. But if he leaves earlier or is fired – no severance package. If he waits, he will be job hunting with 8000 other former Compaq employees.
So once again, I am thankful that I have a job that I love at a company that is stable and well in the black with clients that we are turning away.
Added at 1:41 CST: Forgot to mention – he found this out today, AFTER he spent $2,000 to sign up for school to get his MBA (non-refundable), AFTER they agreed to pay his tuition, AFTER they approved his time off request for surgery … UGH.
