Don’t DeLay!

Since I made my love of Tom DeLay known yesterday (*cough, cough*), I think I should take a moment to point people to Texas Tuesdays and the informative posts about Richard Morrison, the man who is challenging House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and giving him a run for his money. You can read more about him here:

Thanks to Charles for sharing this information!

My WordPress Wishlist…

After using WordPress for a few months, I am impressed. I knew I would be, so it’s not really much of a surprise. My site loads much faster than it ever did before, and it is easier for you to make comments. Speed is king! However, there are a few things I miss from MT and a few things I simply wish were included. Here’s the list:

– While editing an existing post, I wish I could view and edit or delete every comment associated with that post. I would like to see them all listed on the post editing page, with the ability edit them or delete them.

– While under Edit > Comments, I wish there was a way to list the next x comments – for example, I had a lot of comments today. They aren’t all listed (some have scrolled off), and there is no “next” option available.

– While under Edit > Moderate Comments, the post that the comment was left on is not listed. It’s there in the Edit > Comments section, and you can quickly access the “Edit this post” option; but it’s not there on the moderation screen. This would be helpful so that you could tell if a comment was actually spam or relevant to the comment.

– A “select all” option for the Edit > Moderate Comments screen. If there are 46 spam comments (like I had a week or two ago), I want to be able to select all to delete them, not go through one by one to select the delete/approve/do nothing option. I like that you can moderate all of them at once, I just wish that was available to make it even easier.

– An easy way to import images and generate pop-up windows for them for blog posts. I have found some plugins available that might make this possible, I just need to test them out within the next week or two. That might make this wish a non-issue.

– An easy way to make different templates. I have a few items that I would like to have show up on my index page only, but there is no way to prevent them showing up on all of the other pages with the template setup of WP. It would be nice if this could be customized even more.

Overall, I have to report that my experience so far with WordPress has been fantastic. The wishes I have are actually pretty minor ones; I just think that having them would make running my site easier. Kudos to Matt and everyone else behind the development of WP! You should be very proud, and I’m looking forward to WP’s future!

Got Vonage?

I keep looking over the Vonage phone plans, and I keep wondering if it’s as fantastic as it sounds. Anyone out there have it? Have any feedback on it?

It would cut our phone bill almost in half, and if we went with the top of the line plan we would have unlimited long distance. Very tempting…

Rock Me Like a Hurricane…

I have a confession. I had no clue that Hurricane Charley was even out there until I heard some people at a restaurant talking about a Category 4 hurricane hitting Florida. Yeah, I get out of touch with the news sometimes. Oops.

With the hurricane season that we have had this year, I haven’t made that mistake twice. I tracked Frances constantly, and now I’m keeping an eye (pardon the pun) on Ivan.

How ironic is it that during the news there was a tourism commercial for the Mississippi Gulf Coast? “What Job? What Kids? What Yard Work? What Worries? Get away to Missisippi’s Gulf Coast! With non-stop flights … everything you need to plan the perfect getaway…”

Yeah, perfect with the current 20% chance of Ivan hitting head on. I hope it doesn’t go there, but that’s rather trite. Obviously, it’s a hurricane and it has to go somewhere. Right now they are giving Galveston a 6% chance of getting the storm, but hurricanes have a mind of their own and I’m not counting us out yet.

Personally, I Want to Feel Good…

Tom DeLay’s latest comment about the assault weapons on the news? “It’s a feel-good piece of legistlation, and all it does is punish those people that live by the law, and it does nothing to keep assault weapons out of the hands of criminals.”

Thanks Tom; personally I would like to feel good.

If the law wasn’t effective, then fix the law. I’m more curious about these good law-abiding people that need assault weapons. Why? Why would you need an assault weapon? Who needs one? I really don’t want my neighbors to own one.

I have no issues with people owning guns. If you want to hunt, go ahead. But there is no need for any citizen to own an assault weapon.
