Hello? Are You My Friend?
I just finished importing my blogrolls in to WordPress. No more Blogrolling links slowing my site down.
I have my blogrolls sorted in to “Chewy Cookies” – people I have never met in person, and “Tasty Cookies” – people I have met in person. This system has worked for me for a few years. Now? Now it doesn’t seem like quite enough.
I have people that I have met in my travels, at SXSW and people that I have met here in Houston. Then there are the Tiaras, which seem to deserve a group all their own. Then there are people that I have never met in person, but they feel like old friends.
I don’t know why this bothers me. I guess it’s just one of those things. I’m not going to change things around though, because then I would feel like some people are more worthy than others. Some are within my mind, but I don’t need to share that in public. I’ll just keep it to myself.
Next comes to the issue of setting up XFN relationships. I have the option of “acquaintance” or “friend”. Sometimes it is a hard call. If I call you my “friend” does that put some sort of pressure on you? Do you have to perform to some new standard? But if I call you an aqcuaintance and you consider me a friend, is that going to hurt your feelings?
Some people are really easy to label – others aren’t. I guess that is just life.
