Law on the Lam!

So, have you heard the news? I think this is just hysterical. In order to prevent gerrymandering and the Republicans changing the voting districts around in Texas, 52 Democrats took off and hid in Ardmore, Oklahoma. At least they left a note. By skipping town and leaving the state (so they wouldn’t be forced to go back to Austin) they prevented the Texas House from having a constitutional quorum. The Houston Chronicle has a great editorial on it all, and Charles at Off the Kuff has several informative posts about it, including this helpful Q&A.

It should be noted that, “House rules allow for the arrest of members who intentionally thwart a quorum. Reports were that most of the missing members had left the state to avoid such arrest.”

I just can’t believe they took off like that. Classic. I swear, you can only get entertainment like this in Texas!

While I Was Working…

I spent Sunday chillin’ at Chelsey’s house because I spent the night there Saturday night – I didn’t feel like driving over an hour at midnight. I came home Sunday afternoon, did some housework, got ready and went out with Jason, my parents and Mike for Mother’s Day dinner at County Line Barbeque. Yummmmm, yum!

Today? Today was non-stop rocking busy. Go, go, go, go. I crammed an amazing amount of work in to an 8 hour day. Then I left to meet up with Mike and head over to Jason’s Court of Honor for Boy Scout’s – he was being recognized for earning his Tenderfoot and Second Class ranks. He’s almost got his First Class earned too – well on the road to Eagle Scout!

While I was out running around, Jennifer slid in to my site and added the “Subscribe to Comments” feature! If you see anything wonky, let me know. I’ve tested it, and it all seems to be working just fine. Wheeee! It’s just wonderful to have Scripty Goddess connections!

I’ve never watched Dr. Phil’s show, but from what I’ve seen of the commercials, I’m starting to wonder if his goal is to make every guest cry. Does he do that on every episode?

I Know – We’ll Say it’s a Joke!

Now Microsoft is claiming that the iLoo was just a joke. Oh, sure. You’ll make your April’s Fools Day joke much more effective if you wait until May 2 to announce it. Yep. [via Mike]

I think it’s just a cover up because we were all laughing at how silly the concept of the iLoo was. Not buying the whole “joke” thing. Good try!

Like the Energizer Bunny…

Today’s schedule:

7:30 am: Wake up.
8:00 am: Pick up stuff for Jason’s chess tournament from my Mom.
8:20 am: Pick up Jason from the slumber party.
8:25 – 8:40 am: Wait while Jason, the slumber party host and his Mom search for Pokemon Ruby, which is in someone’s Gameboy, and it’s nowhere to be found.
8:50 am: Sign in for chess tournament.
8:55 am: Run to Whataburger to pick up breakfast.
9:10 am: Return to chess tournament. Jason plays 5 rounds of chess. Take May Day photos.
9:37 am: Freeze in amazingly cold high school during chess tournament. Could it POSSIBLY be any colder? Toes are red and numb.
9:53 am: First and only time I have ever walked outside in the Houston heat and thought “boy, this sure feels goooooood.”
10:03 am – 4:05 pm: Watch a lot of chess. Freeze. Thankful for heat outside. Take May Day photos. Use laptop computer as heat generator to keep legs warm. Edit photos to upload tomorrow.
4:07 pm: Jason didn’t place in tournament, but had a good time. Drive to apartment.
4:52 pm: Wake up Jason, who has crashed on the couch while I was printing maps. Leave apartment to drive to the other side of Houston (1 hour) for Doug’s graduation party. (He got his MBA! Whoooooo! Go Doug!)
6:07 pm – now: Arrive at Chelsey & Doug’s. Eat. Drink. Be merry. Have good time. Celebrate and enjoy!

Whew. Long day! How was yours?

Everyone is Invited!

Yesterday, I decided it was time for the H-Town Blogs to have another gathering. J-Mo and I had such a nice time at the Crazy Horse Cantina, I commented that it would be a good place for us to meet because there is a lot of room, a happy hour, and really good queso.

So I did it. Next Tuesday, May 13 (so it won’t conflict with the Matrix Reloaded premier on Thursday), from 6-9 pm we are meeting up at the Crazy Horse. Yes, a good time for everyone is almost guaranteed, and ANYONE is welcome – if you are able to make it to Houston on Tuesday night, please join us. If you have friends in Houston that you want to send over there, we would love to see them.

An example of how serious I am about the “everyone is invited” concept? Every so often, Bob the Corgi makes it down to Houston – especially for the Art Car Ball that happens this time of year. I realized today that she just might be in town, and I was right! Not only is she in town, she will be here still on Tuesday – so she and Dave (who is an H-Town Blogger) will be joining us!

Who else wants to come on in to downtown and join us? We would love to see you!
