Effective Desktop is a set of utilities that allows you to extend your Windows desktop and (the thing I like the most) it allows you to hide your unused system tray icons. I end up with a touchpad icon for the laptop and a LAN connection icon. I don’t care about either one, but have never figured out how to get rid of them – so here is a solution!

I hate desktop clutter. This sounds good to me 🙂
Cool!
I downloaded this last night, and I really like that it lets me hid the systray items. I think I could get really confused by having multiple desktops to put icons on, though. So I turned that off for the moment 🙂 Thanks for the great rec 🙂
How do you find out all this stuff? 🙂
thanks for the note 🙂 am still going to krista’s sex and the city party tonight 🙂 wish u were there kiddo!
You can usually turn these things ff in the control panel in windows. Usually. It might depend on how the laptop manufacturer configured their windows settings.
This sounds neat! I’m always afraid of little utilities like this though – scared they’ll mess up my computer! LOL!
Windows XP does something similar – not the multiple desktops thing (unless you have multiple monitors), but it does hide your inactive tray icons after a short time. I *love* when it does that. You can also specify icons to always hide, always show, or just hide if inactive. Nice features – I always cringe when I look at somebody’s PC and they’ve got about 10 icons down there. 🙂
