Come On In… It’s WARM!

Dude. According to weather.com, it is currently 38 degrees outside. THIRTY-EIGHT degrees. I realize those of you up north are mocking me right now for emphasizing the temp, but can I just take a moment to share with you just how HAPPY I am that we have not one but TWO working furnaces now?

When I got home this afternoon, it was 62 degrees in the house, and guess what I did? I turned on the heat. Yep, it’s running right now as I type this. My fingers aren’t numb with cold. I have on toasty flannel pajama pants, but that’s by choice – not because I have to bundle up to stay warm in here.

I love my furnaces. And as the temp drops to 28 degrees tonight, I’m sure I will love them even more. The high/low for the rest of this week? 45/29 tomorrow, 37/23 on Christmas Eve, and 42/25 on Christmas. The 26th will be 50/32. Do you realize what happens to Houston with that many days of freezing temperatures? Nothing in Houston is built to withstand it. A day or two, fine. Several days in a row? Oh yeah, we’re in for a fun ride…

Rumor is, we might actually get SNOW this year for Christmas. SNOW. In Houston. Yeah, that’s what I get for bitching about not being able to get in the Christmas spirit. Now we just might get snow. How cool is that? Sure, it might only be half an inch worth, but it’s still really cool.

Even if it snows, at least it will be warm in my house.

Ok, that just seems wrong… that Texas would get snow, and up here in the “great white north” we don’t have any. Oh well… never had a white Christmas yet, why start now, right? 🙂

The real problems happened when it STAYED below freezing even during the day. So if it is that warm during the day there shouldn’t be any problem. Our record freeze was below freezing for 112 hours. And that was maybe 25 degrees. Note that was hours…not days. There was a freak snowfall here years ago but it is really a rare winter if we even get a dusting of snow. I think you are starting some bad rumors about Houston winters!

Hmmm… not sure how I am starting rumors about Houston winters – I posted highs and lows, people tend to have issues when it freezes here (even if it’s just for 6 hours), and it might snow. Not sure where the rumors are. It’s not normal for it to be cold here, so when it is … that’s how it is.

We’ve only turned on the heater once, and that was a few days ago. We didn’t even turn it on last night. I grew up not needing the heater. My parents would intentionally keep the house like a meat locker during the winter. I just make sure I have a lot of blankets and wear a lot of socks. 🙂

C…I know that you know what the temp is. I’m just afraid people in other parts of the country will read it and think the temp stays below freezing…remember you are famous and read across the country~!
