Jenn sent me a link the other day that I finally got to read today about Kyle David Miller, a 3 year old who was riding in a booster seat in a car and the seatbelt failed during a major crash. He was thrown from the car and died due to the crash. I strongly encourage every parent with a toddler to consider a safe 5 point harness car seat – full car seat, rated for a child up to 80 pounds – over a booster seat after what I read today.
Minutes after I read that site, I visited Mercedes’ (the bride in the slideshow below) Xanga site to leave her a comment to let her know the slideshow was online. When I went to leave my comment, I saw other comments about her accident. Accident? I had a strange sinking feeling and called her right away. I got her voicemail and left her a message that probably sounded a bit odd, but I was very concerned.
Tonight, one of her friends (Becky) sent me the link to Mercedes’ mom’s blog post with the photos of her car after the accident. Or what used to be a car. It is truly, truly a miracle that she is alive. More than that, alive and without major injuries or broken bones. Just looking at those car photos made me cry. I mean … whoa. It really is a miracle. Especially when I read the most recent post and saw that she doesn’t always wear her seatbelt – and it is what saved her (before it failed) on Friday night.
I said earlier that Mercedes & Tim impressed me with their strong faith. I believe it will carry them through this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts & prayers! No matter what your faith is, I know all the positive, healing thoughts we can send her way will help her.

Wow, that is amazing and makes your wedding photos even more poignant. Best wishes to Mercedes for a speedy recovery.
All I can think of looking at the photos of what used to be her car is, “Holy shit”. It’s amazing anyone survived that!
Wow! That car is a pancake! It really is amazing that she survived that with fairly minimal injury. (Although she does sound like she’s having a rough time) Hope she starts feeling better soon!!

I stopped laughing when I read this recent post, and started praising God.
He really is God is “our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” The rest of the verse goes “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…”
(Psalm 46:1-2) I can just imagine your friend must have felt like the earth was giving away when that SUV plowed into the side of her car!!
I thank Him that He spared her life and that our bodies may be weak but God is strong; what she could not withstand He made provisions for in His goodness and mercy, “Though my flesh and my heart may fail, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26).
Thank you for sharing this, what a great testimony and not only that but my son and daughter (both under 80 lbs) ride in regular booster seats and today you have me thinking that I must get them safer, 5-point harness car seats to ride in ASAP. Thanks.

Just a side note – if people buy the seats from the Kyle David Miller foundation – they are a non-profit and anything over the cost of the seat goes to providing car seats to those who can not afford them. 🙂
I definitely believe in miracles. I recently was in a bad car accident myself. Due to speed, driver error and bad roads (snow and rain), my car slid, lost control and flipped over and did a 360. Both my friend and I walked away completely unscathed. We should have been hurt or even should have died.. but Grace saved us both 🙂 Prayers to both Mercedes and Tim!
