Friends and Laughter…

How fitting is it that shortly after I wrote that post yesterday I got an e-mail from Jay with a phone number, asking me to call him to set up plans to get together? Well, let me backtrack a little. I got an e-mail from “J” and the subject line was “Hey!!! Call me!” I came *this close* (pinchy-finger gesture) to deleting it, thinking it was porn spam! Then I noticed the Houston area code and realized it was from Jay.

I called him and we set up plans for lunch. He was kind enough to offer to drive up to my side of town, since I had an afternoon meeting with a client. After I gave him directions, I started naming off all of the local places. At first he said he didn’t care, but then he realized that Tex-Mex is one thing you just can’t get in Hungary – so we had to go to Pappasito’s! Mmmm…

It was FANTASTIC to see him again. I first “met” Jay online a year ago, thanks in part to MovableType and his need for beta testers for MT search. From there we became friends, and finally got to meet in person at SXSW last year.

Lunch was wonderful. Fun, laughter, catching up on where we are both at in life right now. Discussing mistakes made in the past and lessons learned that will help us in the future. The margaritas helped the chatter too. And as an added bonus – I got the Rosary he picked up for me in Rome and it is beautiful!

He’s off to New Orleans now, and after that he’s on to Europe. I won’t deny that I’m envious – to be able to live such a carefree life is a great thing, although I wouldn’t trade my life right now with anyone. I wish him nothing but the best in the journey ahead. It’s amazing the people you meet and the friends you make online.

I met my husband online…The internet is both wonderful and dangerous but it really is not that much different than non-electrical meetings.

You just use your brain a bit more here I think.
well…
most of the time anyway 🙂

I’ve met many dear friends online – some here in Houston, others across the country. It’s been interesting to say the least!

I just can’t decide if I can claim that I met Mike online … since I actually met him in person but had read his site some beforehand. However, we met because of the Internet. So I guess that counts for something!

when i was hiding the fact that i met Tom online, i was telling people that i had met him at school… since, technically, i was at school… albeit chatting with him over IRC. and it depends on what you mean by “met” him… because i met Tom in person… but irregardless, i initially met him online… when it was still “safe” back in 1994. and then we met in person in 1996. and then got married in 1999. and have been extremely happily married ever since. i agree… i have met some wonderful people online – like YOU! i just have a hard time getting those who i have known since i was little to start using instant messenger or e-mail or blogging… it kind of discourages me in a way… that’s how i best communicate in this day and age. i hardly talk on the phone, except when i’m at work.

anyway, i’ve strayed away from the original subject. 🙂

Teehee! YOU were one of the main people I was thinking of when I was talking about the cool people I met online! I “knew” you for what – a year and a half before we actually met? Closer to two? And we’re both right here in Houston! LOL!

I met my husband online too in 1996. We also met in person and got married in 1996. Like the others who have commented, I’ve met some incredible people because of the internet. I’ve met some real losers too, but they’re everywhere unfortunately.
