Gimme Back My Box!

So I head on over to Amazon.com, expecting to have a Gold Box there.

Only …

There was no Gold Box. Hello? Where did my Gold Box go? Did Amazon run out of power tools to offer me? Did they finally figure out that maybe they should be offering me kitchen tools or health & beauty stuff? That they should maybe toss in some electronics, (I mean, I did give them some good soundbar reviews recently). So they’re revamping the whole thing? What’s up? Where’s my Gold Box?

This post brought to you by Sonic and the Frito Chili Pie. Delicious. Thank you. (Thanks also to PenIs Mightier for the inspiration.)

Get this: I tried to go to PenIs Mightier and the firewall told me “no can do, the forbidden category is sexuality.” I hadn’t even realized that it wasn’t necessarily read as…you know…PEN IS. heh. the content police will be knocking on my cubicle walls any second…

It happened to me, too, a few weeks ago.

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

From time to time, we test both new and existing features on our web site to determine which characteristics or services drive customer purchases and satisfaction. We are continually fine-tuning our presentation to provide our customers with the greatest value, selection, and information for their online purchasing decisions.

During these test periods, certain aspects of our web site will appear differently to randomly selected customers, or to the same customer on different computers or browsers. Gold Box is one such test.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that this test is only temporary. Also, I have passed your comments along to the appropriate person in our company. We always value customer feedback like yours as it helps us continue to improve the service and selection we provide.

We value your business and hope to see you again soon at Amazon.com.

What’s weird is that I wrote to Amazon.com when my Gold Box disappeared from my work machine. I could still see it at home, just not at work. For a while I could check it in both places. But now it’s flip-flopped—I can’t see it at home, only at work. If I could choose, I’d obviously choose to have it the other way around.

By the way, offer #1 today for me was the third season of Sex and the City on DVD for $29.99. That’s like $20 off what it costs in the stores. I, uhh, passed.

Mine vanished too. For the amount of coinage I throw their way with my *ahem* serious book buying addiction, I should have that dratted gold box every day.

And even though I never actually wanted the power tools, bird feeders and lawn furniture that constantly graced the box, it still felt nice to see that twinkling little icon on the screen.

God. I need a life.

Haha, I just had a heart attack! (Not really.) I went to Amazon through a book recommendation and MY GOLD BOX WAS BACK!!!! My heart is still all aflutter 😉 They offered be the Buffy 1st Season boxed set and then 4 power tool sets … oh well. They must have made it more random (as opposed to showing up every time).
