Normally this is the time of year that I’m complaining that everyone is trying to stuff Christmas down my throat. I prefer to wait until after Thanksgiving to get into Christmas. I put my tree up in mid-December because I’m old school and I like to keep it up until Epiphany (January 6th). But for some reason, I really want to start decorating my house for Christmas right now! I don’t want to wait! I don’t think I can blame it on the cold front that is coming through tonight and knocking the temperature down to a sane fall level either. I asked Mike last weekend if we could start decorating this weekend. Maybe I should start pulling things out – we could put the lights on the bushes outside and start to get the decorations out for the fireplace and things like that early. The tree will have to wait though – it involves cat-herding (and I have no idea how Chloe will do with it), so I’m not ready for that yet.
I just feel the need for sparkly Christmas lights.
I am inspired to make some homemade decorations this year after checking out Loobylu, who has tips on the “perfect” way to decorate a tree – and a link to Wee Wonderfuls, who has the cutest snowflakes hanging on her ceiling! How cute are they? I totally want to do that. And I’m going to get out my cinnamon heart ornaments because they smell so good. I think I’ll make some pinecone ornaments too – I have a few already that Jason made in school when he was younger and they look so darling on the tree. We have plenty of pinecones out in the yard, so I’m all set.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Have I lost it? When do you start your Christmas decorating? Have you started already? And when do you take everything down?

My mother’s tradition of holiday decorationess started with the small stuff like holiday plates and trinkets around the house the week before Thanksgiving, then the tree went up the week after – and up till Jan. 6th.
In the past few years – where things have not been so cheery and bright in my family of 4, trees were not going up till the week before and in 2 years – not at all. This year I want a Merry Christmas… and most of it went up this past weekend. Lights and wreaths on the garage still need to go up… but in all honesty? I’m not really ready for Christmas yet. 🙂 Sorry for the long post!
I too am chomping at the bet to haul out the tinsel. I always put the tree up before Thanksgiving. That way when the Turkey Day travels are over we come back home and it is Christmas!
Normally, we decorate the day after Thanksgiving, but since my husband has to work that day this year, I believe he’s going to pull the stuff out this weekend. We take it down, the day after Christmas, or the next, if we have money we’ll be shopping that day. (for the past few years, we haven’t had any money left for the sales..hehe)
We normally try to get everything up the weekend following Thanksgiving, but the past couple of years (due to family health problems and two of us in college) we’ve done good to have it up by the middle of December! Normally it all stays up till around January 2nd and comes down before the bro returns to school and me to work (so dad has some assistance getting it all back in the attic!).
While you are at it you should make these snow globes. I made some a few years ago and they are still holding up. I might do some minis this year as tree ornaments. A great source of figurines for the innards is the dollar store.
