It Is Easy to Be Green!

I completely forgot that today is Earth Day until I turned on HGTV this morning. Watching the green shows makes me want to go and trade in my vehicle for an electric one – especially after paying $40+ to fill up with gas yesterday – and do all sorts of other environmentally friendly things.

Did you know that there are a variety of tax incentives for making green changes to your life? You can check out the state by state list. Reading through that, I discovered that here in Texas, Memorial Day weekend is tax free for purchasing certain green things. I think this year we need a more eco-friendly thermostat, new ceiling fans, and most of all — a new dishwasher!

There’s only one BIG problem with the Hybrids — when that battery goes (I think it lasts 5 or 6 years) it costs $4,000.00 to $5,000.00 to replace. Where’s the savings? Sure, you could trade it in before needing to replace the battery, but what kind of trade-in would you get?

We really need other alternative fuel(s). Have you been seeing anything about the “Compressed Air” cars? The inventor was on Glenn Beck last night. They are being produced in France right now and should be in the states around 2010. He said they should sell for around $18,000.00. And they certainly don’t look any worse than the PRIUS.
Love ya, Girl!

We have a Prius and that car is worth it’s weight in gold for how much money it’s saved us on gas. Also, our Prius battery has an 8 year warranty. And we got a one time tax write off of about $800 for owning a hybrid car. All sorts of pluses! I will concede that it is a goofy looking car though 🙂
