Quirky? Yeah, that’s me. Very quirky. Or neurotic, depending on how you want to look at it. It is all about perspective, right?
I went to fill my car up with gas today, and I was faced with one of my quirks. I can’t stop pumping at an odd dollar amount. I can only stop at a whole dollar amount, or a quarter amount … so $23.00, $23.25 and $23.50 are ok. $23.12 is simply not acceptable.
I’m not the only one that does this, am I?

I round to the nearest dime. $23.25 is no good. I have to go to $23.30. I guess I am weird like you too.
I do it too, and I do my darndest to make it stop on an even dollar. Then again, I also tip to even dollars.
where did you go to have to pay that ridiculous amount? i haven’t broken $20 yet. i still can’t believe we even have to pay that much. *grrr*
try not to top off your gas… you can potentially put too much air in your tank. i just live with the off amount (because i used to try to get it to an even number, too – you’re not alone in that!).
Not at all. Here in Oregon we are not allowed to pump our own gas, but every gas station attendant I’ve watched fills the tank to an even dollar amount for you.
Why didn’t my comment post?
I don’t have a car anymore because I live in the city but when I did have one I must admit I did that too. I always tried to make it a whole dollar amount though.
You neurotic? Really? 😉
But, no, I don’t do that. And I am obviously neurotic. I mean, just look at the URL.
It never fails. I get to $20.97 and slow down the pump. Then as I cruise past the $21.00 I just say screw it and put in another quarter. I swear!
Nope … you’re not the only one. I’ll squeeze in a bit more to reach that amount if I can. 🙂
I’m the same way – I think I picked it up from my mother. When she used to pay cash, she hated to dig out change. I pay with a credit card, and I’m still obsessive about making sure it all evens off.
Okay, I left a comment here, but now it’s gone.
Test?
I round to the nearest dime. $23.25 is no good for me. I would go to $23.30. I guess I am weird like you too. Doesn’t everybody do that though?
I actualy go to the two-cent mark, because in Australia, we don’t have 1 and 2 cent coins anymore, so the amounts like $20.01 and $20.02 become $20.00 🙂 GIMME MY FREE @ CENTS OF PETROL!
I’d say you are eccentric. Quirky (while fun to say)…. nah.
