I love the Copacabana! It’s such a morbid little song but nobody ever pays any attention to the lyrics because of the music. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve forced to pay attention to the lyrics just so I can see their reaction to the line about Lola losing her mind. 😀

I actually used to hate the song when it first came out because of how morbid it was! But you’re right – most people don’t listen to the lyrics and have no clue. However, the dance mix totally ROCKS!
Hey I have always LOVED the Copa and still have the original 45 from when I was about 7 years old. With all the scracthed on the vinyl it sounds like it’s playing directly from the year 1978. So great. And poor Lola. I know geesh. But, sounds like this new and long overdue remix must be amazing. If anyone is interested I have 4 mixes of a song called “copa cabana” which is essentially, a latin tribal non-vocal version of Barry’s “copa.” If you love that latin throb from Copa you’ll flip over this. It has all the intergrity of the origianal but more muscle and adrenalin. Whew. Even without the lyrics it does deliver that nostalgic vibe but I must admit you do miss the world of the story. Let me know if you want to listen.
