Not sure if I can get my head round the ‘Urban Tribe’ thing…Part of me suspects it’s just another Post-Modern ‘slight of hand’ in labelling something that didn’t really require labelling…
…(As it’s so obvious as to be transparent to definition)…
And I’m not sure whether it actually ADDS to our understanding of community or our ability to communicate to that issue…
But hey, if it gives the black clad ‘intelecturati’ a new buzz word to throw into the conversation at gatherings, then it does serve some purpose (even if that’s just to perpetuate and excuse their own existence).
As Dwight Eisenhower said: ‘An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows.”
…Ooopppss…
Just read my own comment there. Must apologise for it acidity. Yours was – unfortunately – the first blog I read this morning when I got to work (and I’m not quite awake yet)!
…Plus I had a bad day with the guys from our univerity’s Art department yesterday.
(…I have ‘issues!)
:o)
No need to apologize – it’s a valid comment. I thought the same thing myself from time to time – ultimately, I’m not sure where it fits in. There are definitely some aspects about our society today though that make it unique from 20-40-60 years ago, so it’s an interesting thing to ponder…
