Just How do You Choose?

You know, we all have blogs that we love. They end up being our “must read” list. I have several friends that fall into that category, and you know who you are. But I have a problem. My regular read list is almost 120 links long. There is no way I can ever read that many blogs. I simply must thin it out. I don’t want to lose the links though, so I made a “sometimes read” list and a list of people that I have met in person because if I convert to Blogrolling I want to use the * to mark fresh content blogs.

So, how do you cut blogs off of your read list? I hate to do it – I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I have to make that list shorter. The blogs I read are lost in the shuffle. I tend to keep people that are similar in demographics to me – but as we all know thanks to Blogwhore, that’s not always an accurate choice. I love lots of blogs where the writers have nothing in common with me. Should I group by “category”? No, who wants to be put into a box? Then my next thought is to be sure to link to the people that leave comments here a lot – but then again, if I’m pressed for time and speed reading I don’t always leave a comment at every blog I hit. So? What should I do? Ugh. I hate decisions…

Having a Great Time … Wish You Were Here!

Flew in to Phoenix this morning around 10am PST and picked up the rental car. Let’s start clearing up a few myths. “It’s a dry heat.” Dry heat or not, 105 degrees is still freakin’ HOT. HOT. HOT, HOT, HOT. Sure, you’re not melting quite as fast because “it’s a dry heat”, but when the temperature reader inside the PT Cruiser says that it’s 108 outside, it’s no better then when it’s 95 outside in Houston. Ok, glad we got that one out of the way. Now, can someone tell me one other thing? Where the heck is the GRASS? There is NO grass here. Well, on the golf courses that we have passed. Otherwise – no grass. Nowhere. Not a single blade I think along the entire stretch of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson. Bizarre. As Krista said, it’s not the State of Arizona – it’s the State of Depression. I felt like I was on a movie set or something, it was just that surreal.

So we made the drive to Tucson, and I think I’ve decided that the city itself looks a lot prettier then what we saw of Phoenix. Maybe it was just that after 4 hours in the state by that point in time I’m getting used to it. Made the drive through the city to our final destination (by the way, if you’re curious just send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to tell you all about it, I just don’t want to link and drive traffic to their site and show up in their stats.) Had a good, productive, long meeting with our client. (Since that is really the purpose of our trip, after all.) Then it was off to the pedicure. YUM. It was great – truly a treat and something I wouldn’t have ever paid for at home. And in Robyn’s honor, I picked OPI’s “Chick Flick Cherry” red for the polish. I took photos of the end result, but I didn’t grab the camera out of the car before the massage so no photos of that. I’ll have to tell you all about it tomorrow.

For now, it’s off to the amazing suite that we are staying in – a little bungelow basically with a full size washer & dryer, a kitchen, a huge bathroom, and a nice living room – in addition to the bedroom. It’s awesome! Having a great time … wish you were here!

Getting Defensive…

I’m taking Defensive Driving online courtesy of TakeHome.com. Oh joy – does the fun ever end? Ok, it’s not that bad – just long! And I have a million other things to do with the trip on Thursday. Excuse me while I beat my head on the keyboard.

1 Year and a Road Trip…

Just a few weeks ago I “celebrated” the one year anniversary of being laid off from my FC. Today? Today I celebrate the one year anniversary of my job at the awesome & amazing web site design company, 4 Guys. (Yes, I was only unemployed for 3 weeks. I rock.) I love it here. Just in case you didn’t notice.

On a separate and unrelated note, check out Adaptive Reuse and their latest Press Release. What an amazing project. Here is an excerpt:

They will depart Brooklyn, NY on June, 22 2002. They will acquire all of the items necessary to travel to Houston and conduct their reuse investigation from second-hand sources nationwide, including but not limited to military auctions, unclaimed luggage vendors, foreclosed land auctions, regional Want Ads, thrift stores, eBay, impounded vehicle outlets, second hand book stores and school district surplus clearances.

Subsequently, the IAR requires that Wilcha and Freyer sell the entire research inventory they’ve accumulated upon arrival in Houston (vehicle, computer, video cameras, clothes, etc). Returning this material to the marketplace will then fund their return trip to Brooklyn, thereby completing the study. (They will be arriving in Houston on July 5th.)

I met John & Chris at SXSW earlier this year – matter of fact, we all went out to dinner and then the Continental in Austin. Incredible people. I still owe Mike & Robert for rescuing me that night – Fray Cafe was full and I had nowhere to go! I think it was one of the best nights I had too. I like meeting diverse & intriguing people. Leaving on a Jet Plane…

Kymberlie, Krista and I will be heading out on Thursday to go visit a new 4 Guys client. While I don’t mind traveling, this trip comes with a perk. The client is a top of the line health resort, ranked #1 by people like Conde Nast and a ton of other magazines. While most of our time will be spent in meetings, they did give us the chance to select one treatment from their spa & sports options. What did we all go for? A massage. I’m disappointed though that my Swedish massage won’t be done by a man named Sven. Actually, I keep debating – there is a pedicure treatment that involves a foot & leg massage that also sounds wonderful, and I might just see if that’s available. I can get a massage anywhere, I actually want to buy one of the massage chairs, look for the Human Touch brand here, the best ones in the market.  Now that pedicure treatment is something I would never splurge for – it’s a $115 treatment normally. And happy tootsies are a good thing! I don’t know, I just can’t decide. Massages are part of me, i need them to get the stress out, relieve my body tensions, it helps with my anxiety, stress and so much more, so  What do you think? what do you recommend?
