Are We There Yet?

It’s 422 steps to the top of the Notre Dame Cathedral. 422 spiral staircase steps. 422. Then you can see the gargoyles up close, and an absolutely amazing view of Paris. Then you can walk another 125 steps and see a panoramic view that is simply breathtaking. It’s hard work, but it was worth every single step we had to climb.

Now every time I see a photo of the Notre Dame, I point at the tower on the right – at the very top of it – and say, “I was up there!”

Yay! 🙂 I didn’t mind the climb of the tower too much – luckily, they force you to stop 2 or 3 times. The view is definitely worthwhile – I’d go back to Paris in a heartbeat just for that view. 🙂 The real question is … how long did you have to wait to climb up? 😉

We didn’t have to wait too long to climb up – maybe 30 minutes? We were in the third group to go up after we stood in line. They only made us stop once – on the gift shop level. I stopped a few more times during the rest of the way up.

Going on a Monday during a heat wave probably helped somewhat.

*hee* We spent one night in Paris. It was the last of our trip, and we were broke and backpacking it. We didn’t have enough money for a hotel room, so we crashed in front of the NDC. We stayed up until 3 playing Euchre with random strangers, and when I did fall asleep, I woke up to a sunrise in Paris. Of course, I was pissy at that time and just wanted a bed, but looking back now, it was pretty cool. 🙂
