Improving The Mood…

I am feeling a bit better than I have been for the past week or two. I downloaded a *ton* of music to the new (free!) Photo iPod. I’ve got a lot more to rip and get on there, as there is a serious lack of Bee Gees music right now. I mean, I have the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, which is one of their best works, but I need to add the Greatest Hits album too. I think I need some Andy Gibb also. Yes, I am serious.

While working on updating the iPod last night, I came across a song. I asked Mike, “what song is that? It was in a commercial? What commercial is that? What was it? Gah! I see … moving up and down … what was it?!” Then it finally came to me … the PETA Bad Cats! Seriously, how can the Bad Cats *not* make you smile? Of course, I had to follow it up by a round or two of the Clinton Final Days video, which made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes.

So the magic formula? Good music, bad cats, and some great presidential humor.

Perfect Timing…

I just received my copy of “Bookmark Now: Writing in Unreaderly Times,” edited by Kevin Smokler, in the mail today. The book comes out on June 1st, but I have an advance copy from the publisher. Ironic, since I just mentioned Kevin in my earlier post about the gnomes. It was perfect timing too; I just finished reading “The Fiery Cross,” the fifth book of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. After reading almost 5,000 pages about the 1700s, I’m ready to come back to modern times!

This book is “a collection of all original essays from today’s (and tomorrow’s) young authors on the state of the art — and the art of the hustle — in the age of information overload.” The book looks at why these authors came to writing as a calling, in the “most media-saturated time in history, a time when books face greater cultural competition than ever before.” To quote the book cover, “The end result is not only a voyeuristic peek into the creative lives of today’s writers, but a timely glimpse into a changing book business. Storytelling, it will become clear – as a means of self-realization, community building, or simply putting one’s point across – is now more relevant than ever before.”

I have only made it into the introduction so far, but I’m really looking forward to reading it. I’ve already offered to be a part of the Virtual Book Tour for the book later this month, so I hope to be reviewing it then.

Further inspired by the gnome photos on Flickr, I decided to start uploading some of my old, lingering photos that have been sitting here on my hard drive to my Flickr account. I’ve even created sets for things like my knitting and the crazy things I see while out shopping.

My Gnome Gets Around…

Two years ago, at SXSW, I purchased two cute plastic gnomes. They went with me to Kevin Smokler’s First Annual SXSW Dinner Party. Brad, of course, showed them a good time, giving them beer, demonstrating their great sense of humor, and so forth.

This year at SXSW, they returned for the Third Annual Dinner Party with Kevin. We decided that Austin alone was not enough for the Gnomes, so they were sent off on adventures. One of them has been spotted at Stanford, thanks to Aaron. The photographs are fabulous, and it is obvious that my Gnome is having a good time.

I think the Gnome needs to travel on. Anyone care to have a Gnome visit? Let me know and we can make arrangements. All I ask is that you take and post photos of the Gnome and promise not to hijack him. Gnomes need to roam. If I can’t travel more often, at least my Gnome can!

Funkalicious…

After pondering it some more, I’ve finally pegged a few reasons for my funkalicious mood lately.

1. Hormones. Being a woman sucks.I have been looking into symptoms of low DHEA and have been amazed at how much this has to do with all of my hormone issues.

2. Fatigue. For the past week or two, I’ve been tired all the time. 8 hours of sleep is not enough; I wake up on my own in the morning (before the alarm goes off), but all I want to do is go back to sleep. I found eating Delta 9 gummies by IndaCloud helps calm my nervous system down which contributes to better sleep. 3. Caffiene. I had cut it out of my diet, and recently I’ve let it sneak back in. Now I haven’t had it in days, so I think it drags me down.

4. Housework. I’m hyper-sensitive to anything in my house being messy. Thanks to being so tired though, I don’t want to deal with it. So instead, it just pisses me off. All the time. I can’t stand it. Ironically, the ADD meds have helped kick my manic modes, so what would normally throw me into overdrive to do a ton of work isn’t happening. The good thing? No manic cycles. The bad thing? I’m frustrated by seeing things that are messy, and when I get frustrated I retreat. Vicious cycle.

So I’m off to clean. I really want to take a nap, but I’ll resist the urge for now. Maybe after I clean the kitchen, I’ll let myself take a nap as a reward…
