Way to go, Astros!

After the baseball strike fiasco, I really didn’t think I would attend a major league baseball game any time soon. But Jason sold the most Entertainment Books for his school fundraiser, and we had 4 tickets for tonight’s Astros game. I put aside my feelings about the strike and we headed downtown to Minute Maid Park (which I still call Enron Field, I don’t care what name they have on the sign.)

The weather today was *gorgeous*. The first thing I said to Kymberlie this morning was, “I’m going to a ballgame!” My attitude the rest of the day? I didn’t care about a thing. You could have stuck needles under my nails, and I would have just dealt with it. The weather was amazing and I was heading to the ballpark.

It was a great game – the Astros WON 8-6 over the Brewers, fantastic weather, and I even took pictures (a teaser is here and there is more coming soon). Jason & I went with my Dad, and it was fun yelling at the players from the nosebleed seats. I don’t care what you say – I know they can hear me when I’m up there yellling at them.

As an added bonus, they are giving out all of the schwag they didn’t get rid of earlier this year – so we got t-shirts and Hot Wheels cars. What more could you ask for? The best way to kick-off birthday week, and since I haven’t been to a game all year it was nice to visit the park. I love Enron Field. (There, I admitted that I love something in Houston – try not to faint.)

They have buy one – get one free tickets for Tuesday & Wednesday night – and it’s still fan appreciation week so there is more goodies to be had – anyone up for going to a game? No, really. Obviously this only works out though if you’re in Houston though… unless you can get here fast!

Photo Time!

I couldn’t get online this morning for awhile, so I edited photos and got them ready to be added to the Pixelog. They are there now – enjoy! I only added 7 new ones so far, but there are a lot more to come! (Jennifer, I promise – there will be Boston photos there soon!)

Guilty Pleasures…

Yesterday, Robyn and Todd talked about movies that are your guilty pleasures. You know … the ones you are ashamed to admit that you like, but you are more than happy to watch over and over again.

For me, it isn’t movies. I have no qualms about admitting the fact that “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” is still one of my all-time favorites. Oh no, for me … it is something much worse. It is music. Music that will make you cringe. Music that will make you laugh at me because it’s the music that makes me happy. And today one of my guilty pleasures was satisfied…

Kymberlie and I went to Costco earlier, and while I was there, I spotted the BEST CD! I just had to have it. No, seriously. I didn’t even think twice about picking it up. Didn’t care about the price. I just had to have it.

“Bee Gees – Their Greatest Hits – The Record”

Yes. I am serious. I am listening to “Jive Talkin'” right now. It has all the hits for “Saturday Night Fever” too – “Stayin’ Alive”, “How Deep is Your Love”, “More Than a Woman”, “You Should be Dancing” … oh, I love this CD.

Yes, yes … you can laugh at me now. I don’t care … Jive Talkin’ …

H-Town, Part II…

As I mentioned earlier, there was a gathering of members of the H-Town Blogs yesterday, and it was a blast! The weather was perfect (finally!) and downtown was deserted as always. Houston is just the strangest city – no one to be found for the most part in downtown on the weekend, unless there is a baseball game. I took pictures to prove this fact, and I’ll post them tonight.

Kaveh Kanes was a great spot to have this – there is a large “U” shaped couch, so we could sit and talk with each other easily. Eventually there were so many people there we had to add more chairs, but in a circle like that the conversations were flowing. Pictures were snapping. It was fun. After awhile we decided some food was in order, so we headed to the Topas bar next door to eat. That’s TOPAS not to be confused with TOPLESS, ok? There seemed to be an issue with that every time it was said. Say them out loud. You’ll understand.

In attendance (I hope I get all of them!) were: Mike (who I couldn’t wait to meet because I had heard such great things about him from D, all of which are true), Elaine, Hanna, Rob, Robert, Charles, Erica, Cody (with the adorable and wonderful baby Petunia), Clayton (who looks just like the photo on his site), Greg (Clayton’s guest in town from Indiana. I hope we didn’t spoil his impression of Houston…), and Kathy.

Good company, and more blogs to read. Because they just get better when you’ve met the authors in person!

Free Books!

It’s Banned Books week and you should support the Banned Books Project. I do. (Yeah, there isn’t a button on my sidebar … yet.) There are many books that I think are quite wonderful that are banned by others. I don’t think this is right. A responsible parent should monitor what their child reads and make sure it is age appropriate – but from there, books are the gateway to the world. Help make sure that people have access to that gateway…
