“Because Mars has not been this close in more than 50,000 years, the sight is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” Head on out and check out Mars in the night sky, visible in the absolute east in the evening. The big day is August 27, from 7:30 pm “Mars will get as close as it can to Earth, a mere 55.76 million kilometres away, but clearly visible.” Read all about it here. [via Mikey]
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s freakin’ cool. Jason and I will definitely be heading out to check it out! I wonder if we can see it with the city lights or if we will have to go out to the country for a good view.

I think you should beable to see it just fine over the city lights. Here in North Dallas, i can see it already pretty good through the lights.
That is so cool,I didn’t realize…I wonder if I can see it tonight?
I LOVE astronomy stuff. I’ve been really enjoying seeing Mars the last few weeks. And it’s going to get brighter? Cool!
